Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson leads presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton among self-identified independents, a new poll finds.

A Fox News survey released Thursday found Clinton leading overall with 39 percent support, followed by Donald Trump at 36 percent and Johnson at 12 percent.

But among independents, Trump leads, at 32 percent, followed by Johnson, at 23, and Clinton, at 22.

It is hard to believe the high poll numbers for a very LIBERAL Libertarian candidate.

Temporary parking spot for those who will eventually come around to voting for Trump.

Trump leading with 10%-units over Clinton among independents and still trails her. Sounds fishy!

Are the #nevertrumpettes (or Smelling Salt Republicans, as I like to call them) really OK with legalizing marijuana, single-sex marriages etc etc?

Disgruntled Bernie Sanders voters probably make up the largest proportion of the “Libertarian” converts.

I don’t know whose fault it is but the Libertarian Party seems to have become synonymous with smoking pot.

THIS IS A HEAD FAKE! Johnson won’t break 2% bank on it.

They are obviously oversampling democrats assuming that Hillary will match Obama’s huge turnout among minorities.

But she won’t. Especially if she picks Pocahontas as VP. Two rich white women on the ticket will get her the Kerry turnout of 2004.

That has not been my experience in dealing with them at all: the Libertarians I know cannot stand Sanders and his supporters, and vice versa. I have heard that most of the unhappy Sanders voters will either stay home or vote Green Party, which will be on the ballot in about 38 - 40 states.

I feel for those Sanders supporters. How can Sanders, and now Warren, sell out to the war-wongering money-stealing rulers who have shown them no respect?

Point out to every disillusioned Sanders supporter you know that hillary is the preferred candidate of Romney, the Bush Dynasty, and so many others they despise.

They really have quite a few options....Libertarian, the Green Party, Trump, stay home. (lovin' it!!!)

Yup. They only care about those issues to scare the voting fodder and keep us in line.

Now they have a frightening new tool. Even if they have to sometimes vote for the issues they campaign on to get re-elected, it doesn't matter. The Judiciary overturns everything Constitutional and Conservative. It only takes one judge to destroy everything we work for.

Hope it holds - he’ll bleed many more votes from Hillary than from Trump...

Incorrect. I and many (if not most) (if not all) of my Johnson-supporting compatriots are genuinely excited about the possibility of him making a real showing and causing all kinds of electoral havoc. We believe, I think rightly and obviously, that Trump is at best a very, very small improvement over Her Thighness and is 100 percent unfit to hold any office at all, much less president of the United States.

If he is eating into what would otherwise be Hillary “lesser of two evil” votes more than Trump, then I’m all for it.
