The Roanoke Times Todays question: Will Hillary Clinton pick Tim Kaine to be her running mate? Short answer: Dont know. All right. Well, now that weve got that settled . . . Oh, you wanted more chatter? Thats easy to do, because few things provoke as much speculation as potential running mates. This much is certain: Virginias junior senator is being mentioned quite a lot. That shouldnt be a surprise. Eight years ago, when Kaine was a mere governor, he was on the short list for Barack Obama. If that had come to pass, perhaps now wed be talking how Vice President Kaine matches up against Hillary Clinton instead of how he might match up with her as a No. 2. Since then, Kaine has been elected to the Senate, and gained foreign policy experience as a member of both the Foreign Relations Committee and the Armed Services Committee, all of which inure to his benefit if Clinton went with a traditional vice presidential pick. The key word there is traditional. This hasnt exactly been a good year for conventional wisdom. Clintons potential choices basically fall into two general categories the interesting and the conventional. The interesting options include Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren an outreach to Bernie Sanders supporters, perhaps and two Cabinet secretaries who both happen to be Hispanics, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro and Labor Secretary Tom Perez. Others mentioned are former Massachusetts Gov. Patrick Deval and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, both of whom are African-American. The conventional choices include Kaine and
a lot of other people. Our parochial interest here is the Virginian, so you can go check out an Ohio newspaper if youre really curious about the vice presidential chances ....

He’s a criminal. Just another Marxist to the core. 100% statist POS.
Is there no Hispanic transgender undocumented midget she can choose?
The idiot who thought Obama ended the Russia-Georgia war?
This clown is beyond certifiable.
How insulting to Mark Warner.
Kaine would be an uninspiring bit safe pick.
But I think she goes with Castro.
“But I think she goes with Castro.”
Fidel or Raul?
Former Gov. On paper he’s qualified to be on their bench. Prime time?
That might lock down Virginia for Hillary
Sen. TIMMY! (think South Park)
Or Julian. They are all the same.
That would be Julian Castro
HUD Secretary
Mrs. Bill is determined to win TX this year, which twice rejected Mr. Bill. She is looking for the San Antonioan Castro for the VP spot.
A white male? Seriously doubt it.
Kaine could be formidable for Hillary. He’s moderate. He’s not crazy like a Dennis Kuchinich type.
I think “safety first” will be the way this year. Clinton and Trump already have a larger than life personality. They need nice, safe choices.
Trump-Thune
Clinton-Kaine
Kaine vs. Thune VP debate would be a draw. Both are tough debaters, but the average voter may tune out that veep debate.
Absolutely no reason why she would pick a white man!! It has to be a candidate who can MAKE HISTORY WITH HER.
My favorite of all quotes - James Watt in Reagan’s administration - Secretary of the Interior. Think how many adjectives we’ve added since this quote:
“”A controversy erupted after a speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in September 1983, when Watt mocked affirmative action by making the following statement about a coal leasing panel: “I have a black, a woman, two Jews and a cripple. And we have talent.”[21] Watt resigned within weeks of making this statement.[21][22””
Exactly.
My guess is that Castro is not a great debating.
He seems incredibly talented (My cousin lives in San Antonio and says he’s wicked smart), but he’s too “green”. Kaine is probably a better debater, but who would watch Kaine vs. Thune? The MLB playoffs would probably have more viewers that night than Kaine vs. Thune.
