Medical Marijuana Dispensary Manager Shoots Armed Robbers Clad in Masks, Body Armor (CA)

WALNUT PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- The manager of a medical marijuana dispensary in Walnut Park opened fire on two armed men after he said the suspects tried to rob him.

The incident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 2400 block of Florence Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The store manager told Eyewitness News that the suspects barged into his business clad in body armor and with their faces covered, pointing assault rifles at him.

The manager said he had no other choice but to grab his handgun and shoot at the suspects, firing at least 10 shots in self-defense.

Jasmine Chavez, who lives just behind the business, said when she came out of her home a short time after the shooting, she saw the suspects being wheeled into an ambulance.

She then talked to the manager of the business.

"His reaction was wow, like lucky to be alive," Chavez described. "He's like, I had to do what I had to do to save my life and his employee there as well."

Local resident Hector Martinez, who has worked at a marijuana dispensary as a security guard, says the owners of such businesses usually have security guards around all the time.

"A lot of money is kept inside, and that's why they always hire guards and actually have to escort people with that amount of money out so they won't get robbed," Martinez said.

Authorities said both suspects were taken to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds, though their exact conditions were not immediately released.

The investigation was ongoing.

Two robbers with assault weapons come bursting in, and the handgun shooting owner dings both of them first, nice.

Where did the manager of a medical marijuana dispensary exactly put the Led Bee Stings on the robbers?

Why would a medical marijuana dispensary be open at 10:40 p.m.?

It’s a conundrum> Which thing to Prohibit, the plant or the gun? I’m sure the Nanny Staters will figure it out.

Even though “medical marijuana” is legal under California law, it is quite illegal under federal law. Is someone who possesses marijuana even allowed to possess a firearm under federal law?

In a local story a couple of days ago, police raided a house where drugs and a gun were found. One of the charges was “illegal use of a firearm during commission of a felony” even though the firearm was not used by anyone. I think it was locked up in a safe. Anyway, the cops said they were allowed to tack on the weapons charge. Apparently it is ok for lawmakers to change the definitions of words whenever they like—kind of like NJ declaring BB guns “firearms”.

So far the Feds aren’t involved in this case. But hey, if the Federal gun grabbers can step in then, Yay, I guess? Not sure why a Conservative would cheer such a thing.

Not cheering it at all. Pointing out the abusudity of many gun laws. The pot store owner could face years in the pen for protecting himself, not aware that he is technically a “prohibited person”.

Impossible, clearly this man has not read the DNC platform or listened to Hillary. First of all, handguns are never used in self defense. And an assault rifle is unbeatable.

It didn't work out against Clint Eastwood either. Skill, training, and courage matter more than anything else. It looks like the guy who works for a living (not that I approve of his work) was able to fire off ten or more mostly aimed shots before the parasites figured out where their triggers were.

Too bad they had to be taken to the hospital.

Mrs. Bill would pass laws, that is Decrees and EOs to outlaw guns. That, were it already done, would certainly have prevented the two commandos from having “assault” weapons and then the store owner would not have needed that pistol.

Did the bad guys even remember to load their guns? Pehaps that’s why it was so one-sided.

If the story is accurate, this store employee was pretty damn gutsy going after high cap long guns and armor.

I’m confident the victim shooter would very much disagree with you.

I was thinking the morgue would have been a better destination. The storeowner had a smaller than usual target, though, as the creeps were wearing armor. That leaves the face, arms and legs.
