WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans controlling the Senate are abandoning an effort to use their power over the federal purse strings to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
The more pragmatic approach with a huge $164 billion spending measure reflects a hope by top Republicans like Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to remove veto bait from must-pass spending bills in hopes of advancing them more easily.
President Barack Obama has already vetoed separate legislation aimed at repealing the law, and he has easily kept language to “defund Obamacare” out of the final versions of annual funding bills.

Just to be contrarian here... maybe Mitch really sees that the attention span of America is about an inch long. And that if the GOP did succeed here, America isn’t going to tolerate the hiccup to its convenience that will occur as Obama digs in and fights to the bitter end, blaming the Republicans all the while.
It takes a Donald Trump with a “Let’s replace this Obamacare with a lot more efficient Trumpcare” to get the greater American nod.
This, despite the fact that Forbes reports on 1.8 billion in illegal payouts under the bailout provisions!

Anyone that thought the GOP was not 100% behind ObamaCare were fooling themselves. Even though it is only step one because the real Party goals are Single Payer. It will require better thinkers than we have now to solve these inevitable problems without resorting to the old communist methods of cost cutting.

It’s a mighty big temptation to appear the champion of the day, and if (rhetorical) you set up a single payer then everybody will grovel to you for help.
The only answer, perhaps, is to be a populist champion. And Donald is headed for that spot.
If I buy Obamacare, which is the law, I can no longer afford to go and see my doctor. I can’t afford my medicine, and I can’t do anything at all to trigger the deductible.
In other words, if I buy Obamacare, I die.
