A More Sensible Way to Border Security

Posted on 06/07/2016 12:32:05 AM PDT by ErikJohnsky

While I, in principle, agree with Trump's plan to build a wall on our southern border and make Mexico pay for it, fact is that last part is what's making this all controversial. If you look at the poll numbers, its obvious that Trump's plan himself is not popular http://www.pollingreport.com/immigration.htm but if you look back before Trump ran, http://www.pollingreport.com/immigration2.htm , building a wall was mostly favored by the American people http://www.pollingreport.com/immigration2.htm

That making Mexico pay for it, and calling out their government for allowing their people to cross, was the big political mistake. While the Mexican government is somewhat complicit, illegal Mexicans just do what anyone in abject poverty would do; go to where they'd have a better chance of making it economically. Its like stealing a loaf of bread to feed a family. The illegals send back cash in the mail, which adds to Mexico's GDP, so Mexico has no economic reason to stop it. Calling for Mexico to pay for it sounded too combative towards the home country of these illegals, many of whom do have legal relatives, whether they came legally, or came illegal but got a green card/permanent residency and are now technically legal.

Of course, this goes both ways. Normal countries secure their border and deport illegals. No, its not racist to do so, whatever liberals want to think. Their standard BS excuse is "if Mexicans were white, who would care?" That's them making everything about race with their communist Critical Race theory cooked up by DNC platform committee member Cornel West, etc. And to answer, Hungary built a wall; they're white, and their neighbors are white too.

Hungary is a good model; they built a wall that has done a helluva job, but they didn't try to get their neighbors to pay for it. That's what America needs. I don't know if they deported all their illegals, but then again, given how many Muslims might have crossed their border, they should've. Very luckily for us, Mexico isn't a Muslim country. There are 12 million illegals here now (IDK how many Hungary had), a small country full, scattered thru 50 states. The tentacles they have with legal people and the sheer cost and logistics to deport them would make the job of deporting them impossible.

In short, build a wall, auction the process to a good defense company, no citizenship for the illegals here now, and deport any illegal newcomers and all illegal immigrant convicts. Even for as nice as Trump's principle is, this would be a much easier sell to the American people and the GOP itself.

Every poll on immigration squishyness is complete BS.

Arizona, Montana, Oregon... every time this goes to ballot anywhere the so-called “nativist” position gets taken when actual votes happen.

Trump is attacking the corruption of Mexico as well in his statements.

No one seriously is against a wall because they are worried Mexico won’t pay for it.

that’s true, but the “Mexico will pay for it” ruined the narrative. Even for as liberal as the media is, you still have to work around it, and the pendulum was moving our way for a time, given how in the 2000s, Congress even voted for a fence in some places with both D and R votes. Now the narrative is that Trump’s plan would “hurt relations with our neighbor” in a way that just building a wall won’t.

A wall by itself will do absolutely nothing to stop illegal immigration. The key to stopping illegals is to stop the system that welcomes illegals. Stop illegal employment, stop illegal welfare support, deport criminals along with seizing all assets and the rest will leave on their own.

On the political front the right needs to focus on showing how trades taken over by illegals have eroded wages and put Americans out of work.

Why are Americans so for a wall and Mexicans are so against it?

The illegal Mexicans, by and large, pay very little taxes if any at all as compared to their American counterparts yet they and their anchor babies receive the bulk of the social welfare benefits when you compare the populatuon Americans to the Hispanic population that are living over here illegally and gaming the system. They also breed like rats and are causin overuse if our resources and overpopulating our cities. We cannot continue to do this because we can't afford it and we can't demand that the people break their backs more to take care of them so the Democrats have a massive voter base when they game the system by making it legal for them to vote almost as soon as they arrive. Hell they have no skin in the game. They don't even know who the hell they're voting for and what they stand for.

Fine themployers $1 million a day per illegal and get out of the way of the stampeding illegals going home.

a wall itself would do a lot, if Hungary’s model is anything to look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_border_barrier#Impact_on_the_number_of_illegal_migrants_entering_Hungary

I agree that for non agricultural jobs, definitely get tough on illegal employment. But seizing all assets would not be possible because most illegals have it all in cash hidden away. But yea, the illegal welfare benefits gotta go.

A wall would work fine but there are easier, well cheaper, methods of contending with many of the problems immediately recognized by the complete disregard of our borders, and our Law.

Stop paying these people money to come here.

Decline to provide them with food, clothing, shelter, or medical care.

Impose huge fines on companies which hire ‘illegals.’

Enforce current Law.

End all federal funding of any sort for any district, city, state, or whatever for providing sanctuary to illegals.

Other simple Rx treatments are easily brought to mind.

how would you “Decline to provide them with food, clothing, shelter, or medical care.” Make stores ID everyone who comes in to see if they’re legal? What if they’re using cash (which unlike a credit card, is not tagged)

The problem is that all of those cheaper methods fail utterly if law enforcement is in the hands of Marxists.

A wall doesn’t care who’s in the White House.

Mistake to impose import labor tax in the manner of taxing their money transfers, but not a mistake to impose export taxes in the form of welfare?

Wow. Suicide yourself, or else the enemy will get mad at you politically...

“The tentacles they have with legal people and the sheer cost and logistics to deport them would make the job of deporting them impossible. “

This is complete nonsense. Bill Clinton deported 11 million. GW Bush deported 11 million. There is no reason at all that a million deputized law enforcement officers can’t round up 12 million or 30 million illegals. The only problem has been keeping them from returning, and leaving them a place to return to here in the US. A wall makes it harder for them to return, and enforcing the EXISTING laws against employing illegals leaves no job to return to.

This would be a good use for the IRS and its gestapo powers to seize bank accounts and property and do it before a trial — these employers have committed tax fraud by using a false SS# for those workers. When a few hundred businesses have been destroyed by having their money frozen and property auctioned off, there will be NO businesses willing to employ illegal workers. Real estate involved in criminal enterprise, or even just paid for with ill-gotten gains. can also be seized — and that includes rental property for wherever they were living unless the landlord can provide some documentation that he didn’t know the rent was being paid with the proceeds of illegal labor.

Any sanctuary city should have federal funds stopped — for everything. Medicaid doesn’t pay for services in those zip codes, EBT machines don’t work, welfare checks and section 8 housing assistance doesn’t go to disallowed zip codes. Watch how quickly the actual citizens scream to end the sanctuary policies.

"A wall by itself will do absolutely nothing to stop illegal immigration."

From a policy point of view, they usually say "enforcement only won't stop illegal immigration"

Building a wall is enforcement only and won't solve the problem. Hiring more enforcers won't solve the problem.

Pushing the cost of enforcement off on an employer by fining him huge sums won't solve the problem.

Pushing the cost of enforcement off on local law enforcement and the local taxpayer(sanctuary cities) won't solve the problem.

From a policy point of view, they usually say reforming immigration policies is the only way to solve the problem.

Line up snipers along the border and shoot anyone who comes across.

Simple.

The fact is, Americans do not want border security, and will not tolerate anyone who does.
