Jordanian authorities arrested a suspect after an attack on Monday at a Palestinian refugee camp that killed three security officers and two others, state television and an official said.

Initial investigations suggested the attack at the intelligence department's office at the Baqaa camp was an "individual and isolated act", Jordanian government spokesman, Mohammad al-Momani, said. He gave no further details.

The kingdom, a U.S. ally for decades and with close security ties with Israel, has long been a target of radical Sunni Muslim fundamentalist groups including al Qaeda and Islamic State.

King Abdullah has repeatedly warned that the threat from ultra-hardline Sunni groups poses the biggest threat to Jordan's long-term stability.

Amman has imprisoned dozens of hardline Islamists in the last few years, many of whom who had come from Syria or were arrested while trying to cross the border.

But...but the diplomats all tell us that ONLY if Israel would capitulate, all the warfare in the Middle East would cease, overnight...I don’t get it...

Given their low success rate, we’d be further ahead if we did a roundup of those diplomats and just chucked ‘em into GTMO, then start from scratch.

Jordan is Palestine. They should reunite and undo what King Hussein did in 1988; relinquishing the “West Bank.” No more of the “Palestinian ‘identity’” BS. Newt is right; the whole Palestinian people thing is a massive scam.

They’re all part of the “Arab and Islamic Nations” per their own constitutions and words.

It is very hard to fathom how, such “educated”, “experienced”, “seasoned”, “intellectual”, “elite” and “noble” State Department people can be so dense, dumb and suckers playing before a modern world far more skilled and fooling the USA on a daily basis. Common sense seems to be lacking in the area of US Foreign diplomacy for the last 100 years...

They don't work for us, they work for our enemies. They're doing exactly what they set out to do.

I agree. Ariel Sharon said it, perhaps first, and was correct.

A wise man once told me that a more accurate name for Palestinians would be “Northern Egyptians”.

all of these Arabs are just that; Arabs. There is no difference between Jordanian, Syrian, “Palestinian,” Egyptian, Saudi, etc. And each one of them is part of the “Arab League,” and their constitutions say “Arab Nation,” some also say “Islamic Nation,” the only reason its good they have their own nation states is that the last time the Arab world was united (under the Ottoman Caliphate), all they did was make jihad on Europe and Asia. Having Israel there helps divide them, which helps keep peace.

I can't believe that that is still a question for anyone with a grasp of history and reality.

They have as much as told us that is the case!

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”

Palestine Liberation Organization executive committee member Zahir Muhsein, 1977
