California senate refuses to take up bill to prosecute climate change 'deniers'

Despite being approved by two committees, a bill that would have criminalized opposition to climate change died in the California senate.

The bill would have targeted fossil fuel companies, think tanks, and individuals who, in the eyes of prosecutors, “deceived or misled the public on the risks of climate change.”

Washington Times:

The measure, which cleared two Senate committees, provided a four-year window in the statute of limitations on violations of the state’s Unfair Competition Law, allowing legal action to be brought until Jan. 1 on charges of climate change “fraud” extending back indefinitely.

“This bill explicitly authorizes district attorneys and the Attorney General to pursue UCL claims alleging that a business or organization has directly or indirectly engaged in unfair competition with respect to scientific evidence regarding the existence, extent, or current or future impacts of anthropogenic induced climate change,” said the state Senate Rules Committee’s floor analysis of the bill.

Leading the fight against the measure was the Civil Justice Association of California, joined by pro-business groups such as the California Chamber of Commerce and the California Business Roundtable.

Justice association President Kim Stone said she was pleased that the state Senate “realized this bill was extreme.”

"Our concern about the bill is that by eliminating the statute of limitations and reviving claims from forever in the past, it’s fundamentally unfair,” said Ms. Stone.

This is disappointing in one respect: it would have served to confirm the lunacy in Sacto and driven more people out of the state.

Democratic Senators realized it wouldn’t pass constitutional muster.

This bill was so extreme it made all dissent subject to criminal prosecution.

Thank God we still live in America.

More likely they realized that it could be turned around on them and lead to prosecution of the GW pushers.

After yesterday, that state is serious close to needing a Calexit vote to get rid of its cancer from the rest of the nation.

Such a law would be DOA before any sane judge. Maybe the Dems realized that, or maybe they realized that the same laws they want to use to punish unbelievers in the enviro-cult can be used to punish them some day.

If “climate change” is real, why do they need to say that it’s real every 5 seconds? If it was real, wouldn’t it just be apparent?

If passed this bill would have opened up a real can of worms in many areas but only until it was declared unconstitutional.
