Trump did that fund raiser for the vets at the exact same time that the one Republican debate he chose not to participate in was taking place.   For those of you who did not see Trump's fundraiser for the vets that night, Trump spoke, but he also had this gentleman, John Wayne Walding, as a primary speaker at that fundraiser.   John Wayne Walding is a special wounded Green Beret vet who was raising money specifically for a group called "22kill", which seeks to try to provide help to vets so that the average number of vets who try to commit suicide will decrease from the current horrendous average of 22 per day, and eventually cease althogether.

Viewers of Trump's fundraiser that night could bypass the Trump "middleman" process, and donate directly to that group (like my family did), and those donations would not be reflected in that $6 million figure.   (I bet the total amount given that night was much higher than $6 million, if you count all the direct donations to "22kill" that did not go through the Trump collection process, and thus were not reflected in his totals.)   In addition to regular donations, another way to donate to the "22kill" group is to buy an "honor ring" from them, to both support them financially, and to tangibly show your solidarity with their cause, which is what we did.
