The Entertainer is one of Joel’s many songs about record company execs taking advantage of his naïveté. I guess it could be a shot at his wealth, but it’s hard to make it into anything. I know Joel is a liberal, but he usually has taken the position that politics doesn’t belong on the stage, since a good portion of the audience will take exception. I’m a yuge fan, so I hope he leaves it here and isn’t shamed into officially denouncing The Donald.

Billy Joel is an interesting cat. Many years ago in an interview in a certain magazine affiliated with bunny ears he had some choice words for the No Nuke artist of the day and was pro Nuclear Power, and if my memory was correct was a bit profane about it. Perhaps he is not a liberal as he lets on to be...

Was never a fan. A few of his songs are ok however.

Not related to the Billy Joel story, but on Boston TV today, a commentator mentioned that "Donald Trump managed to find a sympathetic crowd today ..."
He managed to find people who like him?? I guess journalists find all of this pretty unbelievable.

Im in the entertainment business. Donald Trumps campaign has been very entertaining, Joel told TIME. Aside from that, who cares about the political opinions of a piano player?
Wise words from an entertainer. All too rare.
But if he were a Trump hater he’d be announcing to us that he was going to leave the country.

That album—The Nylon Curtain—is his best. Liberty DeVito is a beast drumming on Surprises. :)
I saw Joel in December 1999. Although he is Jewish by birth and an atheist, he did a trio of religious Christmas songs with no snark or disrespect at all.

I knew his security guys here in L.A. when he tours. Ex Mossad guys. I was shocked in what he said about Bush and Cheney and we thought he was a loony lib. I wont go into specifics but he leans at least libertarian.
