A Monstrous Moral Leviathan

While I don’t hear the sound of artillery in the distance advancing toward our home in the Maryland suburbs, I have heard for a long time and increasingly so, what I perceive to be ominous sounds of executive, legislative, and juridical barrages emanating from nearby Washington, DC, encroaching upon our personal and religious freedoms, threatening not only our American way of life, but the human dignity of all.

Having grown up within a mile of the Beltway during the Cold War, the greatest fear dominating my childhood and adolescence was that I might one day look up and see a brilliant mushroom cloud rising over DC. At the time, it never occurred to me that the biggest threat to our nation would come not from a foreign enemy, but from within the halls of power in our nation’s capital.

Our government Leviathan is very real and has grown to previously unimaginable proportions. Its ever-increasing reach seems to know no bounds. And what was once perceived to be Leviathan's mostly fiscal threat to the health and well-being of our nation is now a monstrous moral threat.

Leviathan's vast bureaucracies are now its foot soldiers, who have busied themselves with weaponizing executive edicts, errant court rulings and out-of-control regulatory powers against all who disagree with our Ruling Elites never-ending social/moral engineering experimentation.

When will a critical mass of Americans of every race, creed, and color wake up and recognize Leviathan’s hot breath on the napes of all our necks, and finally exclaim, once and for all, “Enough is enough?”

No it’s just presidential over-reach with a congress disemboweled that does nothing to stop it. The uniparty better prepare for President Trump because they have created the Monster called “We the People” who have someone strong enough to stand up to the likes of the Clintons, once in office the obummers, the ly’n ryans etal!

Bobby Kennedy and the Democrats in Congress changed the rules regarding federal employees, effectively making it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to FIRE THEM! Gosh, whatever might have motivated them to something THAT stupid? Could it have been BECAUSE DAMN NEAR ALL OF THOSE EMPLOYEES WERE — AND ARE — HUGE GOVERNMENT DEMOCRATS. Do you suppose they might feel all warm and fuzzy about keeping government HUGE and growing?? Is the Pope a Catholic? (OK, today that may have been a really weak analogy.)
While stationed near DC in the Air Force in the 60s, my wife and I visited an aunt and uncle in College Park, Md.

I noticed that each morning my uncle came down to breakfast and peered out the window at his neighbors’ driveways. He was a private sector electronics engineer who was heavily involved in the development of the first instrument landing systems for airports. Nearly all his neighbors held government jobs.

One morning I asked him about his routine of peering at their driveways. He responded that he was always happy to see their cars still there as it meant that they weren’t downtown wasting office supplies and making life miserable for the rest of us.

After spending 30+ years trying to make a living in what little remains of the private sector here, I fully understand why he felt the way he did.

And can someone tell me why, when there is some lower severity situation or natural event, the government sends out word that only ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES SHOULD REPORT FOR “WORK?” It begs the question WHY THE HELL DOES A TAXPAYER FUNDED BUREAUCRACY EVEN HAVE “NON-ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES”??

That is a safety issue. It is not that the employees are actually non-essential, but that performing their duties can be delayed for a day or two while roads are being cleared so they can go to work without risking an accident. They have to catch up with the undone work once they can safely return to work.

The employees deemed essential are those whose work cannot be delayed. For example, patients in a hospital cannot wait a day or two for care; their need for care is on-going, therefore the nurses and technicians responsible for that care are essential. Same thing for animal care-takers.

In the case of a government shut-down for political theater, the definition of essential shifts a little. Members of the military become essential, and can be required to go to work--even if they do not get paid for it. Working without pay was a real concern when we had that political government shut-down a couple of years ago.
