President Obama signed a legislatively passed amendment to the Local Public Works and Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976 that bans the federal government from using the words Negro and Oriental to describe blacks and Asians.
Many Americans may not be aware that the word Oriental is derogatory, said Rep. Grace Meng on New York, Breitbart reported. But it is an insulting term that needed to be removed from the books and I am extremely pleased that my legislation to do that is now the law of the land. The term Oriental has no place in federal law and at long last this insulting and outdated term will be gone for good.
The measure also updates how the federal government describes minorities, and replaces Negro with African-American and American Indians as Native Americans. The acceptable reference for Oriental is now Asian-American, Breitbart reported.
Just a few weeks ago, the Library of Congress began its official replacement of illegal alien with other less inflammatory references to those in the country illegally.
Our country is a rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds and Americans of all backgrounds deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, said Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., one of the co-sponsors of the bill.

What’s wrong with ‘colored’?
I guess no one in federal leviathan speaks Spanish.
So What Happens when they have to donate to the United Negro College Fund?
More PC cr**. Save us Donald.
Biblethumpers if still quite ok.
Good thing we tax peons don’t work for the federal government or we would be deprived of our constitutional right of freedom of speech.
I asked one of my “watcha-ma-call-it” co-workers one time and he said “What color are you talkin’ about?” So, “Hey Dude!” worked from then on. Maybe “non-white”? Then again, even albinos ain’t “white”. Me, I prefer “pinkish”. Yes, we are spinning out of control at a faster and faster pace.
Not to worry, they’re working on it.
What about mulatto? Would be a topic of discussion for sure.
WOW THAT’S IMPORTANT! What a legacy.
What about “magic”, “y’all Qeada” ?
Best comment so far. I suspect thought that a large number of Americans support Obama on this.
Quickly pass a bill prohibiting any federal money from going to that fund! It is below the dignity of the government to donate to a fund with such an offensive name.
Saying “Buckwheat” got a LA Democrat in trouble, and she lost her state House seat as a result several years ago now.
This bill amends: (1) the Department of Energy Organization Act to revise the definition of "minority" to mean any U.S. citizen who is an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Native American, or Alaska Native; and (2) the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976 to revise the definition of "minority group members" (who own minority group enterprises) to mean U.S. citizens who are Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islanders, African American, Hispanic, Native American, or Alaska Natives.
and the NAACP?....colored people still ok?
Don’t forget the United Negro College Fund!
Or the NAACP.
