Key G.O.P. Donors Still Deeply Resist Donald Trump’s Candidacy
NYT ^ | 5/21/16 | Jonathan Martin/Alexander Burns

Posted on 05/22/2016 6:31:21 AM PDT by Dana1960

A powerful array of the Republican Party’s largest financial backers remains deeply resistant to Donald J. Trump’s presidential candidacy, forming a wall of opposition that could make it exceedingly difficult for him to meet his goal of raising $1 billion before the November election.

Interviews and emails with more than 50 of the Republican Party’s largest donors, or their representatives, revealed a measure of contempt and distrust toward their own party’s nominee that is unheard of in modern presidential politics.

More than a dozen of the party’s most reliable individual contributors and wealthy families indicated that they would not give to or raise money for Mr. Trump. This group has contributed a combined $90 million to conservative candidates and causes in the last three federal elections, mainly to “super PACs” dedicated to electing Republican candidates.

Up to this point, Mr. Trump has embraced the hostility of the Republican establishment, goading the party’s angry base with diatribes against wealthy donors who he claimed controlled politicians. And he has succeeded while defying conventions of presidential campaigning, relying on media attention and large rallies to fire up supporters, and funding his operation with a mix of his own money and small-dollar contributions.

But that formula will be tested as he presents himself to a far larger audience of voters. Mr. Trump has turned to the task of winning over elites he once attacked, with some initial success. And he has said he hopes to raise $1 billion, an enormous task given that he named a finance chairman and started scheduling fund-raisers only this month.

The media is still on old politics, think that like Hillary if Trump can’t raise most money he can’t win. He’s already proven that is not the case.

The NY Times and the Washington Post are part of the Hillary propaganda machine.

Their goal with these stories is to deceive and manipulate.

The question should be "Do we need them?"

I highly doubt Trump is tossing and turning over this. He has held off any fund raising to this point. These donors are pissed they do not get to influence this candidate with their donations. All the incumbents are scared to death because Trump can walk into their districts and Primary these bastards out of office. That is why you see no quotes from congress people about Trump. If they are not up for election this cycle they will be the next and Trump has a lonnnnng memory.

If this election does nothing more than destroy the influence of the decadent Republican “establishment”, it will be a blessing. However they will never go away. The will just reappear in another wrapper and continue to do their damage to the country.

Their problem is they don’t have a clue how to hurt Trump...Everything they’ve thrown at him has failed...

Don’t you know the executives at both organizations are pulling hair and gnashing teeth....LOL...

They’ve run up against someone that they’ve never seen A candidate who isn’t a “professional politician”...Who isn’t afraid of not being “politically correct”...Who doesn’t worry how his words are going to be interpreted and means exactly what he says....

Lord, it’s REFRESHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Sheldon Adelson has pledged $ 100 million for the Trump campaign and that is a start. A million smaller donors can make up a lot of the difference and Trump himself ain’t poor. The open borders, cheap labor, replace American workers Wall Street/hedge fund crowd can keep their money, as far as I’m concerned.

Nothing different than what happened with Reagan. My then future FIL, a devout GOPer, corporate CEO and son of NYSE member hated Reagan so much he did not vote for him in 80. Admitted he did not vote for Goldwater either in 64.

If Hilary keeps making campaign ads for Trump, he won’t need as much money.

http://blog.dilbert.com/post/144298567696/the-mother-of-all-campaign-errors

She also uses the “Love Trump...” message. If you read the whole thing it says “Love Trumps Hate” but it’s awful to start a message with “Love Trump” on your home page.

Scott Adams (blog.dilbert.com) has other example of her ads being bad or even pro-Trump for a lot of voters.
