A powerful array of the Republican Partys largest financial backers remains deeply resistant to Donald J. Trumps presidential candidacy, forming a wall of opposition that could make it exceedingly difficult for him to meet his goal of raising $1 billion before the November election.
Interviews and emails with more than 50 of the Republican Partys largest donors, or their representatives, revealed a measure of contempt and distrust toward their own partys nominee that is unheard of in modern presidential politics.
More than a dozen of the partys most reliable individual contributors and wealthy families indicated that they would not give to or raise money for Mr. Trump. This group has contributed a combined $90 million to conservative candidates and causes in the last three federal elections, mainly to super PACs dedicated to electing Republican candidates.

This is what they always do when they don’t control the nominee - their assistance is contingent on our subservience.
Deeply. Deeply resist, I say.
Predictable anti-Trump gossip and hearsay from the NYT by two of its jurno nobodies.
“Resist we much” GOP-e
“ ... then they fight you (they’ve shot their wad here, they’re just trying to cozen now), then you win.”
Gee, just one Trump supporter, Adelson has pledged up to $100 million. This seems to render somewhat paltry the $90 million that the quoted group has collectively donated over three years to a plethora of Republican candidates.
So one can divide three years into 90 and spread it around to a large herd of Rinos and these folks seem irrelevant. But it is the Slimes, after all.
They are Jealous of DT.
Where were these stalwart defenders of conservatism when McCain was coronated? Where were they when Romney’s time finally came, and ‘I like mandates, mandates work’ was handed the mantel of nominee?
Hell, we’ve given them an old fashion liberal to throw money at. They should be jumping for joy - sure, he’s got some viewpoints on stopping the cheap labor express and wanting to re-shore some jobs, but surely that’s not all that big of a deal to them?
Corrupt Gravy Train bribers of congress know the JIG is up.
Multinational economic Traitors who have sold American workers out by sending their jobs to cheaper multinational locations around the world, and Cheap labor express who would rather hire an illegal construction worker under the table, off book, for half price. And the BS of a Stem shortage when many are still looking for work or long term unemployed.
They can’t buy Trump because he isn’t in this for the money.

They are the “Judas Goats” of the GOP Elite who don't like their loss of “control” over “their country.” They view everyone “beneath them." Rr in other words, they view us as “the help.”
Another clueless hit piece from NYT. You would think they wouldn’t want to incur any more wrath or embarrassment, just one week after that smear job about how Trump treats women!!!
Sheldon Adelson seems to have the interests of the country above his own! Way to go Sheldon! I guess he has never forgoten the country that allowed him the privilege to become wealthy.
National Race
Trump 46 Clinton 44
In line with Fox News poll and others recently, excepting NYT/CBS which favored Clinton by 6.
Significantly, Trump leads Indy vote 48-35.
These "never" elites are increasingly irrelevant.
I knew it was going to be a NY Times article just by the title. It’s a fun game too play - guess the hack journalist :o),
the NYC has written a story about chaos within the party and impending doom in november on account of it . . . on the basis of what 12 people said that they picked themselves.
people shouldn’t let themselves be formed into a ciculalar firing squad on the basis of a single story out of a liberal rag; those people are allowing themselves to be manipulated.
It’s just one donation from two brothers. No big deal.
It’s the New York Slimes. Who would expect that rag to be fair to Mr. Trump anyway. Fishwrap!
