Does Hillary Clinton Know How to Attack Donald Trump?
New Republic ^ | 5/21/16 | Reston

She'll rely on an outside group to pummel him, while keeping her distance. New research says it'll work.

...This year, in her coming face-off with Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton needs to do what George W. Bush did back then (with the swiftboaters): Find a way to take the opponent down, hard, but without voters connecting her to the attacks.

Meanwhile, the candidate who benefited from the “swiftboating,” President George W. Bush, suffered no real blowback from ads that smeared a decorated war veteran on his behalf. Voters—other than angry Kerry supporters—didn’t hold Bush responsible for the sketchy commercial that did so much to ensure his reelection. That explains why Clinton’s anointed super PAC, Priorities USA, will be the one hammering Donald Trump throughout the summer and fall, rather than Clinton’s own campaign. The covert assault began this week, when Priorities unleashed its first two televised attack ads hammering Trump in the battleground states of Ohio, Virginia, Florida, and Nevada. They show Trump swearing, promising to defund Planned Parenthood, assessing a woman’s “fat ass,” and talking about blood “coming out” of Megyn Kelly.

Brace yourself for months more of such ads: Priorities is sure to continue using Trump’s own words against him, in various and damning combinations. And why wouldn’t they? He makes it so easy, and it’s all right there, on Twitter and on tape, ready to be spliced into something that sounds even more revolting than the original.

Yes, who can forget a silver star for leaving Vietnam after four months and three purple hearts, each one for a splinter in his ass?

Voters ... didn’t hold Bush responsible for the sketchy commercial that did so much to ensure his reelection.

Maybe that's because they realize there was an element of truth to said commercial.

I take exception to discussions about swiftboating. Because the swiftboat veterans told the truth, they told their true stories about John Kerry.

The term “swiftboating” has been defined by liberals to be attacks which are brazen lies or distortions of someone’s record. But in reality, the swiftboaters just told the truth.

She’s doing that already and it isn’t working.

Because voters care that Trump will set the economy humming and that immigration will be dealt with. They don’t care what he said about some broad in 1971.

Trump has reality tv immunity. Trump has no false pretenses or hypocritical positions to expose. What can be said about Trump that would surprise anyone?

Trump will be elected as the toughest SOB Scots-Iris klan leader left standing. This will be a donnybrook and my money is on Trump.

I guess we could ask her but she’d probably respond with, “I don’t recall” or “I don’t remember.”

I’m betting she is indicted right before she is nominated.

I suppose the fact that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had the facts on their side had nothing to do with their success.

John Kerry had to keep his mouth shut, could say nothing against a truth attack.

When George Bush declined to defend himself - and his supporters - from the frantic, insane BS accusations leveled against him by leftists, he essentially conceded that they were right. Even though they weren’t.

He put himself in the same position as Kerry was held to, even though he had the truth on his side. That visited a terrible injustice on those who helped him and believed in him, who had invested both money and career time in him.

Incredibly irresponsible. The sort of thing you do when you have everything given to you throughout your life, instead of building it yourself.

You won’t fight for it when the time comes, because it doesn’t mean that much to you. You can always tap your ruby slippers and bail out to the gilded lifestyle your ancestors left you.

It was the Swiftboat Vets website that led me to Free Republic.

John Kerrys rotted skull should still be on a pike outside the White House where he threw some medals

“...element of truth...”

You mean the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Sheesh!

She can lay off him... but she’s fair game if she is running for President. I’ve got a whole Clinton file on my computer. There’s enough to sink her. no one has had the guts to call her on her life’s transgressions. There are so many felonies in her path... just tell the truth on her. Benghazi is one of the worst things she did... because she was in a position to help those brave men in harm’s way and she refused their calls for help.. she let them die and had no conscience about what she did... then she lied about all of it... and then she called a grieving mother, a liar on national TV.

hillary is for hilllary... and no one else!

The media is her cover and protector. congress is her buddy. Law enforcement follow suit. Donald Trump may be just the one who is not afraid of them.

We all await her take down... it’s over due.. way over due.

Clinton and all her super-PACs combined don't have enough money to smear Trump enough to make him look even 1/10th as bad as Clinton's negatives. She is utterly toxic and revolting.

Trump on the other hand, love him or hate him, he's going to say what he's thinking. There are millions of people out here sick and tired of the BS. These last 7+ years may have just reached a tipping point. Trump taps into that, there is nothing Clinton can do or say that'll bring him down. In fact the harder they push that message, the more a lot of us are going to like him.
