LAKE CITY, Fla. - A man doing construction outside a Lake City restaurant Sunday night told police he fired a shot at a teenager who tried to rob him.
The man said the person, believed to be in his late teens, approached him outside a restaurant on Duval Street and asked for money. When told no, the person went away, but returned a short time later, pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and said, "Put your hands up."
Instead the victim pulled his own weapon, which Lake City police say he carries with a valid permit, and fired two shots. The robber ran, apparently not hit.
The victim locked himself in the restaurant and called police.
Lake City police established a perimeter around the area and, with the assistance of the Columbia County Sheriffs Office K-9 Unit, attempted to track the robber, but had no luck.
The robber was described as a 15- to 17-year-old black male, 5 feet 5 to 7 inches tall, thin with short-cropped hair. He had a tattoo with blue cursive letters across his upper chest. He was last seen wearing a pair of black gym shorts. He was not wearing a shirt, but had one tucked into the back of his shorts.
Police said the victim's actions were determined to be proper and in self-defense, so no charges were filed.
I wonder, would he be able to read the tattoo in cursive letters on his own chest?
Did the tattoo say... NO RAGRETS?
No that’s “REGERTS”
Perhaps some range time?
the victim now has a target on his back......
Has the robber’s mamma shown up yet?
I strongly encourage all criminals to get tattoos.
I also strongly encourage all CCW permit holders to learn how to shoot without missing.
The would-be robber is not yet turning his life around and thinking about going to college. But that will occur soon after he is fatally shot by a more accurate victim.
More range time...
I've seen this advice so many times. I mean no offense, but I have to ask: Ever been in a firefight? (and, yes, I have, more than once, in two Army combat tours.) Being proficient enough to shoot without missing (a silhouette) is one thing. Even combat readiness training won't prepare you for the moment when a thug pulls a gun in your face. Yes, practice. That will improve your odds of not fumbling your weapon. But when the adrenalin kicks in and the target shoots back . . .
I'm thinking that the opening 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan and the climactic gunfight in Unforgiven portrayed the psycho-slap-in-the-face of a real combat situation. About the only thing that prepares you for a shootout is a previous shootout. And then, not always.

Thank you for your post.
I get so sick of all these “brave” perfect shooters doing a critique on a victim on Freepr.
In this case, the victim was an EXCELLANT shooter...Why?
Cause he is alive!
Just a brilliant post there (Sarcasm)..See my post #15.
Shooting on a range doesn’t prepare you for EVERY SITUATION.
Everyone b...g about this guy on this thread. How about some positive remarks about a CCW guy being alive cause he pulled his gun...you won’t see that on CNN.
"He was a good boy - turning his life around - was going to start college...Everyone liked him."
Work with your response to trouble, practice quickly getting your gun out and making your shots count. Now someone else will be a victim and may have to do the trigger pulling.
Agree. It’s very tough to shoot accurately when one’s adrenaline kicks in. This guy did just fine — he’s alive to tell the tale.
I think you are totally right and as you said you have been there and got the tee shirt. Dr. Ignatius Piaza who owns front sight says that in a live fire situation you will function at about 70% of the best level of accuracy you ever managed to achieve.
