When CBS ordered six new shows last week, fans on Twitter pointed out the one thing they all had in common: The top-billed actor in each was white and male.
Soon observers began to accuse the broadcaster of not doing enough to cast women and actors of color at a time when the rest of the industry was making strides in that direction.
On Wednesday, CBS unveiled its fall schedule to reporters and network executives were asked about the networks male-centered lineup.
We are the network that has Madam Secretary and Two Broke Girls and Mom we have lots of female leads, we have a great balance, said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller. Actually our new series are more diverse this year than last year. When Doubt premieres, Im happy to say its the first broadcast series to feature a transgender series regular played by a transgender actor. I think thats phenomenal. We are definitely moving in the right direction.
More diverse?
We have had diverse TV shows for 40 years.
So just make more bad shows no one will watch. But this time cast people of color.
{insert punchline about “add COPS and America’s Most Wanted to the schedule here}
Stop putting white people on tv! No More Whites!
Man, if you are a transgender actor in Hollywood right now, you are PROBABLY going to get your own show.
If the show is appealing to me, I might watch.
Most network show are junk, no matter the color of the actor.
This will thankfully hasten the demise of the alphabet networks.
Keep trying, libs.
Your civil war is coming.
Maybe they ought to go out of their way to make sure their casting “looks like America” by following a strict apportionment of roles by race and gender based on census data. Of course most of the gay roles will evaporate and all of the transgender ones because really there are hardly any of either, relatively speaking, in the real world. We’ll see more mexicans and less blacks too. And all the professional whiners will have yet another thing to be disgruntled about.
No matter what you do on the stage
Keep it light, keep it bright, keep it gay!
Whether it’s murder, mayhem or rage
Don’t complain, it’s a pain
Keep it gay!
When will there be a “trans” show? They’ve tried every other perversion. There is very little on TV now, other than documentaries, that I can stand to watch.
Where is the minority transgender superhero that fights for quasi-truth, social justice and climate change? Until we have that, Liberal Amerika will not be satisfied.
Well, when it comes down to it, the network is all about the bottom line. Truth is-white people like to watch shows about white people.
“fans on Twitter pointed out the one thing they all had in common: The top-billed actor in each was white and male.”
Maybe that is because we are consistently the winners and everyone loves a winner....
Just what we all want... Watts CSI
CSI : Fire Island
Yeah, like The Wiz....
Tried watching but, it’s unwatchable, as is Annie.
Tranny detectives...sure winner!
Why, yes - we have white gay people and black gay people and Asian gay people and Native American gay people and Hispanic gay people and alien gay people who aren’t even human. We’re diverse!
