Mocked and forgotten: who will speak for the American white working class? (GOPe wants them dead)

The National Review, a conservative magazine for the Republican elite, recently unleashed an attack on the “white working class”, who they see as the core of Trump’s support.

The first essay, Father Führer, was written by the National Review’s Kevin Williamson, who used his past reporting from places such as Appalachia and the Rust Belt to dissect what he calls “downscale communities”.

He describes them as filled with welfare dependency, drug and alcohol addiction, and family anarchy – and then proclaims:

“Nothing happened to them. There wasn’t some awful disaster, There wasn’t a war or a famine or a plague or a foreign occupation. ... The truth about these dysfunctional, downscale communities is that they deserve to die. Economically, they are negative assets. Morally, they are indefensible. The white American underclass is in thrall to a vicious, selfish culture whose main products are misery and used heroin needles.”

A few days later, another columnist, David French, added:

“Simply put, [white working class] Americans are killing themselves and destroying their families at an alarming rate. No one is making them do it. The economy isn’t putting a bottle in their hand. Immigrants aren’t making them cheat on their wives or snort OxyContin.”

.....

Downscale communities are everywhere in America, not just limited to Appalachia and the Rust Belt – it’s where I have spent much of the past five years documenting poverty and addiction.

To say that “nothing happened to them” is stunningly wrong. Over the past 35 years the working class has been devalued, the result of an economic version of the Hunger Games.....The working class only had their hands. They lost and have been left to deal on their own.

NR brand of conservatism has run its course, totally discredited and on its way to the dustbin of history, along with it are figures like Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Bill Buckley and Jack Kemp,

National Review and NRO are a joke. They’re pretty much ESPN it seems any more.

Gee, can’t imagine why their subscriptions are dropping like a stone.

Good riddance.

I forgot where I heard it...

When blacks get mad cities burn. When whites get mad continents burn.

I think William Buckley would turn over in his grave if he knew his National Review was writing such things. Shocking.

NR is not a publication for the Republican “elite,” for starters. And what is this mincing words about white welfare class? Do they mean what used to be called “white trash”? They are now a tiny subset of society, vastly outnumbered by black and hispanic “trash.” All of whom are pretty much Democrats anyway, aren’t they?

So what is the point, except to make white people afraid to vote Trump lest they begin to identify as losers? Am I just not getting it?

Who will support them? Donald J. Trump. he is blazing a trail—others will come forward. The Liberal, PC, world is crushing down upon them. It will be done soon, watch what heppends in Europe in the next elections. Remember this fact: Nationalism always trumps internationalism—Communism was an international thing and it fell into the dust bin of history—so to with the EU and the UN.

The author does a poor job by lumping in “poor” and “lo income” whites with the “white working class”, although in his defense, the last few Presidents/Congresses have done a god job of making them increasingly the same thing!

The destruction of the working and middle class whites is the reason for the opioid and suicide rates skyrocketing,

The reasons for the deterioration of the white working class today (and the symptoms) are the same as they were for the black working class fifty years ago: Lack of opportunity combined with the offers of free sh!t. Without some action, the outcomes will be the same (in many places it already is). Expect more out-of-wedlock births, heroin use, and unemployable males...

I have read Kevin Williamson's essays.
Although he is quite full of himself, he does make some valid points.

If most of us stand back and take an objective view, we can see that a lot of what is happening to the white middle-class is self -inflicted. Sure, the Gub'mint has sped things up, but we as a class have done a lousy job of raising our children - why is their focus off of church and service-to-others and onto self and entertainment?

Addicted to pornography and video games, our young men have not grown up into adults and our young women cannot find mates that have jobs and a family focus.

Go ahead and shoot the messenger, but that doesn't make our plight any less real.

I live in the country (northern New England).

The loss of employment for former industrial workers and their children is a catastrophe, as is the chronic inflation which robbed their labor of value before it disappeared.

It’s fueling the so-called “heroin crisis”, and tons of other social pathology. These people are good folks and hard workers, but they aren’t going to become video game writers or Facebook docents.

They need a place to go to work where, if you show up on time and do what the supervisor asks, you do OK. They need a school where if they learn a trade, work hard, and have average or above intelligence, you can make a good life for themselves and their kids.

Globalists and globalism has these people in the crosshairs. 100% of them voted for Trump or Sanders in February. If these people are to be crushed, there is no America, just a province of the United Colors of Benneton.

Wake up America.

10 years ago you'd have been banned for writing that post. Now the truth of it is do self evident that it hardly raises an eyebrow. Maybe there is hope.
