I have already posted a comment and just could not refrain from re-posting this story. My wife (a liberal bless her) went back to her native London from Canada in the 1990's. She had a Canadian Passport- she needed Canadian citizenship to teach.
The customs officer at Heath Row was a muslim woman. She acted in a hostile manner and asked a number of questions. This concerned the nine weeks my wife was to stay. Finally, my wife stated that she was born in England and had every right to admitted. The woman threw down her passport and waved her through.
British law is- or was, that any person no matter what other countries citizenship they had, they were still British on entry.
