In spite of his insistence that he will not run, Mitt Romney is being courted this week by a leading conservative commentator to reconsider and jump into the volatile 2016 presidential race as an independent candidate.
William Kristol, the longtime editor of the Weekly Standard magazine and a leading voice on the right, met privately with the 2012 nominee on Thursday afternoon to discuss the possibility of launching an independent bid, potentially with Romney as its standard-bearer.
“He came pretty close to being elected president, so I thought he may consider doing it, especially since he has been very forthright in explaining why Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton should not be president of the United States,” Kristol said in a phone interview Friday, during which he confirmed that he and Romney had a “little meeting in Washington.”

Why else would they want to inject a third party candidate into the mix?
Everyone knows that would split the non-democrat vote just enough to guarantee a Hillary win.
I can think of something more appropriate found on a pig. This pair is what is wrong with the GOPe. Its a showcase of absolute arrogance. They have a rebellion on their hands. No one except the power brokers want a 3rd party.
More to the point, Romney won’t win any state he didn’t carry in 2012.
What’s the point? He never criticized Obama but he was quick to lacerate Trump.
That’s why I can’t support him.
I need it explained to me just how they could do this. I thought the candidates had a filing deadline they had to meet to be eligible to run for president.
An “independent”, at this point, has no skin in the game. Has run no campaign, spent no money, and has no following pasr Lindsey graham and Paul Ryan, and what’s left of the #nevertrump clan.
Its going to go nowhere.
No one is buying what the #NeverTrumpers are selling.
They don’t have a candidate with the star appeal of Trump.
If they did, he would already be the GOP nominee.

Well, I am just trying to imagine a case where a third party would actually work, no matter what stiff is running. I mean say the establishment guy actually locked up the pub nomination and a conservative ran third party. It still only hypothetically has a chance of working in a four-way race, right?

So if there is a four way race, either the official pup or the official dem will always win no matter what? I sort of think someone like Trump could potentially win in a case like that. But I could be wrong.
I mean Perot didn’t have someone near as popular as Bernard sucking from the dem vote.

ANYONE affiliated with supporting a 3rd party candidate, is an enemy of our country and certainly the Republican party.
This will only give Trump a golden opportunity to expose more of their dastardly deeds that thwart the will of the American people and gain more support of the electorate.
