Nine House Members, headed by Rep. Billy Long (R-Mo.), sent a letter to the Appropriations Subcommittee for Homeland Security asking them to continue the increase of H-2B visas that was approved in the omnibus spending bill last year. The H-2B visa is a non-agricultural guest-worker program for low-skilled foreign workers for temporary or seasonal work. The visas are most commonly requested by the hospitality, food service, and landscaping industries. The omnibus spending bill, which was scored by NumbersUSA, quadrupled the number of H-2B visas for 2016. There is an annual cap of 66,000 for H-2B visas but the omnibus excluded any foreign workers who held an H-2B visa in the last 3 fiscal years from being counted against the cap. This quadrupled the potential number of H-2B visas from 66,000 to 264,000. The nine House members and other lawmakers and businesses want to see this increase remain in place permanently. Employers like the H-2B program because visa holders are tied to the company, which prevents many from complaining or unionizing when mistreated. Last year Buzzfeed released an expose on the H-2B visa and how it replaces American workers and exploits foreign workers.

Are these hacks tone deaf or just bought and paid for by the cheap
labor express.
Take names, make them pay. It’s what primaries are for

Billy Long is not a miscreant. He is a strong social conservative.
He may be wrong on this issue, but overall he is a good guy.
Republicans & Conservatives. ....doing the jobs that Democrats just dont wanna do.
Go Trump.
This rat bastard is in the pockets of the big corps wanting cheap tech work. I've seen wages drop since moving to this state 8 years ago but the damn housing/food prices keep climbing higher.
H-2B’s are what Trump uses for his resorts, and his excuse was he couldn’t find Americans for the jobs. So if Trump wins I doubt he’d oppose something like this. It’ll have to come from the grassroots.
Billy Long good guy to your face, who sells you out when you turn your back.
Not good enough anymore.
Does Long own a landscape business?
Does a friend or relative of Long own a landscape business?
Does a friend or relative own a chicken processing plant?
If they are up for re election, vote for the other person running against them, or write you own name in...
Long does come from a relatively rural district in Missouri.
Does that answer your question?
Good enough for me; he wants to go through LEGAL channels to make sure LEGAL entrants into the USA are filling an employment need.
He has the highest lifetime rating for any House member from Missouri from the American Conservative Union: 91.
No one can be perfect.
Chris Collins was the first Congressman to endorse Trump. What gives?
Big government statists love more low income visas. They get to hand out all the welfare bennies like candy.
Wake up. There’s a new sheriff in town.
Is the GOP-e leadership currently running the US Congress ever going to wake up and start listening to the VOTERS? WE THE PEOPLE do not give you our consent to continue outsourcing and insourcing our jobs.
We have plenty of US citizen grads with degrees in computer science right here. My niece graduated from AL (Huntsville) years back with that degree.
Geez, get a life. Cruz lost. Get over it.
We just got back from Nags head on vacation. While there we were waited on quite a few servers at restaurants that were from Europe. I asked what brought them here and they said work, jobs are here.
When speaking to several restaurant owners, hotel employee’s, and other businesses they said that many restaurants and hotels can’t open because lack of workers. They recruit from Europe because those folks are willing to come and work in USA.
The crab plant on the bay can’t get any workers other then foreigners to pick crab meat.
My husband and I were shaking our heads. What has happened to American youths, teenagers, college kids who don’t want to work in restaurants, hotels, factories, etc. Is it beneath them or is it because so many parents don’t encourage their kids to work anymore outside of school. Husband and both worked at age 15 forward. I worked in a restaurant and so did he for many years in high school.
I do see there is a major labor shortage and its our own fault because I do believe parents are raising spoiled little brats who give them everything and never teach them to work for things anymore. I have quite a few friends who won’t let little Johnny or Annie work, its more important to attend school, play video games, and socialize because working would stress their kids out. Bleecchhh.
Just my observation and listening to businesses and owners in Nags Head.
