Victimhood is profitable. On the internet, it can get you thousands of dollars in crowdfunding donations. In the media, it can win you national prominence and a cooing audience of credulous sycophants. On campus, it can get you attention and plaudits from fellow grievance-mongers.
Convince enough people you’re a victim, and everyone from presidential candidates to celebrities will come rushing to support you.

There have been over 100 that they could find after a quick overview. There said it is certain there have been many more.
For those unfamiliar with the details of the alleged attack and its student council election fallout, I'll excerpt from a news article posted by the UVa News Service (link = http://www.virginia.edu/topnews/diversity_issues.html).
On Feb. 26, [2003], Daisy Lundy, a candidate for Student Council who is of African-American and Korean heritage, reported being attacked shortly before 2 a.m. in Poe Alley by an assailant who allegedly used a racial slur in reference to the hotly contested election. She was treated for minor injuries at the U.Va. Medical Center and released.The incident is being investigated as a hate crime, and the FBI is working with University Police. Rewards amounting to $22,750 from various groups, including the U.Va. administration, have been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Third-year student Ed Hallen also sounded the theme of healing when he announced Monday that he was withdrawing as a candidate for president of Student Council. He and Lundy were locked in a two-day runoff when the assault occurred. The election was postponed until after spring break, and with Hallen's withdrawal Student Council announced Lundy the winner.
And yes, this Ed Hallen fellow was a white guy. "Theme of healing." Hah! More like, "I know my goose is cooked: I'll lose in a landslide. I might as well bail out before I'm humiliated at the ballot box."
An assailant was never found. The investigation never found a he to participate in this particular he said, she said scenario.

The moral of this particular tale of Daisy's woe on Poe Alley? I think we can be excused for suspecting that Daisy's alleged attack served her well, can't we? Not only in the short-run, but later on in her life.
Hoaxes pay. Every skilled con man (and con woman) knows this.
The guy who published this book on the subject in 1994 says that he had documented over 300 cases.
That is one short list. It clearly avoids or does not include some notorious hoaxes and many, many others.

True. But IF the liar/accuser is a liberal the press will run with the lie. Not so for a conservative.
Seems in their biased corrupt way the press keeps us honest... And turns liberals into liars...
It works to motivate the liberal base, or they wouldn’t keep doing it. We need to make sure it motivates decent Americans too and that the fact that it’s a hoax gets as much news coverage as the original hoax did.

On Sunday night 21OCT2012 a 20 year old black women, Sharmeka Moffitt, called 911 and claimed she had been attacked and set on fire by three guys in “white hoodies” at a park in Winnsboro, LA. First responders found her with severe burns over most of her body, including some third degree. Her car had “KKK” and a racial slur written in toothpaste(!?!) on it.
Of course, social media exploded with batsh!t crazy FALSE rumors, including that she was attacked because she was wearing an Obama t-shirt, and that she had also been raped. The NAACP got involved. The FBI jumped into the fray to investigate it as a hate crime.
But, upon further investigation, just a few days later, investigators revealed that they had identified Moffitt’s fingerprints on a cigarette lighter and a container of lighter fluid found near the scene. All the evidence pointed to the fact that she had SET HERSELF ON FIRE, and her claims of an attack were just a hoax.
Moffitt was ARRESTED in early 2013 and booked on charges of “TERRORIZING” and “false reporting”. The terrorism charge could have got her a max 20 year sentence, and another max 5 for the false police report. The trial date was set for 12DEC2013, but she plead GUILTY to both counts before the trial, apparently for a reduced sentence. Moffitt was given a suspended sentence of 5 years on each count. She was ordered to have 4 years of supervised probation and to pay $1,500 in fines and court costs.
I think Sharmeka got off too easy, but at least she now has to live with a terrorism and hoax conviction for the rest of her life, not to mention all of ugly burn scars, because of her stupid racist hoax attempt…

You’re welcome. As you may have guessed by now, this Moffitt racially motivated hate crime hoax sure got my blood boiling. But I’m REALLY glad that my LA officials at least had the balls to charge that low-life POS with terrorism and get a guilty plea/conviction.
I wonder if this has not also occurred with other hate crime hoaxes... In fact, I did not remember hearing that Sharmeka Moffitt had been arrested, charged, plead guilty and sentenced for terrorism until I did some further internet news searches today after Freeper detective posted this Breitbart story. Initial news reports of the supposed hate crime were very prolific, but once the news broke that it was all just a hoax, the update news stories started to become rare, and even more rare with the news of an arrest and guilty plea...
