Trump Is Not Racist Towards Arabs or Muslims, Claims Lebanese Advisor
Al Arabiya ^ | Friday, 29 April 2016

Lebanese academic Walid Phares, who is the foreign policy advisor to US presidential candidate Donald Trump, claimed Thursday Trump would surprise Arabs with a conciliatory speech to be delivered this week.

In an interview with the pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper, Phares said Trump “is certainly not a racist” and blamed his “lack of expertise in politics” for making comments that are interpreted as racist and fascist towards Arabs and Muslims.

“He is certainly not a racist and nothing on a personal level shows that he is,” Phares said of Trump.

“The opposite is true, a number large of the employees in his companies are from different races… Muslims, women also occupy high positions in his companies, and he has a lot of investments in the Arab and Muslim world with Arab and Muslim partners.”

Phares said Trump did not intend to ban the entry of Muslims to the US, describing the remarks as “illogical and does not reflect his policy or orientation.”

“I have been informed that Trump had planned last December his first tour in the Middle East that was supposed to include Jordan, Egypt and Gulf countries. If he was appointed as a candidate for the Republican Party, he is expected to make this tour.”

Regarding Trump’s exclusionary speech towards Arabs and Muslims, Phares said: “There will be a significant change in the content of his speech, in which he will highlight for the first time his foreign policy lines, which will adopt moderation in the region. And then he will address the Arab and Islamic world and will explain how his statements about preventing the entry of Muslims to the US were a reaction after California’s terrorist attacks and Paris bombings.”

Phares - a Lebanese academic who immigrated to the United States 20 years ago – served part of Mitt Romney's foreign policy team in 2011. He works as an adviser in the US House of Representatives and is also an expert in anti-terrorism affairs.

Phares said Trump did not intend to ban the entry of Muslims to the US, ...

That seems inconsistent with what Trump's supporters want to hear.

And also, because everyone must say it, neither "Arab" nor "Moslem" is a race.

The standard method of the liberal left is to point their bony fingers at anyone who isn't a liberal and screech"Racist!". They think if they can assassinate someone's character then they won't actually have to debate them.

I’m just antithetical to a so-called “religion” founded by a thief, pedophile and murderer.

Cute, but irrelevant. The Boston Marathon bombers were here legally. The San Bernardino murderer was born here, and his wife immigrated legally. Etc.

One of the few points on which I strongly agreed with Mr. Trump was his contention, as I understood it, that immigration of any Moslems to the United States is extremely problematic. We have demonstrated that we are unable to distinguish those who intend to kill large numbers of us from those who don't. "I'm sorry your country is horrible, Mohammed, but you're just going to have to deal with it yourself. Nothing personal."

Additionally, some Moslems who come here (or are born here) with no particular ill-will can turn into mass murderers if they lose a job, lose a girlfriend, or go to mosque for a hallal potluck and get a dose of jihadist blather on the side.

I didn’t have any special predisposition to mistrust Muslims before 9/11 (both of them), but it grows on me every time I take off my shoes at the airport, or read about their atrocities.

Would that be the foreign policy speech he gave earlier this week? If so then I must have missed this part.

Back in about 1977 or 1978, some “Arabs” moved into our neighborhood. I was a kid, but I remember my Dad saying negative things about “Arabs” at the time. I don’t remember any specifics regarding the negative things that he said.

One night, after we had gone to bed, there was a loud and persistent knock at our front door. I peeked out my bedroom to see what was going on just as my Dad opened the front door. Kneeled down in the threshold and hunkered up next to the door in a fetal position was a white woman/girl who was crying and pleading for help.

My Dad told us kids to go back to bed, but we pinned our ears to our bedroom doors to hear what was going on. It turned out the woman/girl had met the “Arabs” somehow/somewhere (details escape me) and she had gone back to their house with them to drink beer. One or more of them raped her. She escaped the house, which was about 5 houses down the hill from our house, and she ran to our house for help. She didn’t have a car, so she needed a ride home. My Dad kindly drove her home. (I remember hearing the word “police” in their conversation, but I don’t think they called the police or went to the hospital. Perhaps the woman was afraid, or embarrassed, but I think the end result was simply that my Dad drove her home, which was clear across town.)

Later, my Dad told us that “Arabs” don’t even have a word for “rape” in their language*. The implication was that the “Arabs” thought it was ok to rape her because she was at their home after dark, without an escort, and she was drinking, etc., and therefore, her vagina (and likely other orifices) were fair game.

(*I don’t know if that’s true or not, but that’s what I was told when I was a kid.)
