More than 167,000 people have signed a pledge to boycott Target after the retailer said it would welcome transgender customers to use any bathroom or fitting room that matches their gender identity.
The boycott pledge was started by the conservative American Family Association (AFA).
"Target's policy is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims," AFA President Tim Wildmon said in an open letter. "This means a man can simply say he 'feels like a woman today' and enter the women's restroom...even if young girls or women are already in there."
Wildmon urged people to sign the boycott pledge, claiming the policy "poses a danger to wives and daughters." He also urged people to complain about the policy on Target's Facebook page.
He suggested that Target should install separate unisex bathrooms instead of giving all genders access to facilities designated for women or men.
Target clarified its position on transgender bathrooms in a statement on Tuesday.
"We welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity," the retailer said in the statement. "Everyone deserves to feel like they belong. And you’ll always be accepted, respected and welcomed at Target."

No. Do NOT boycott Target! Do the following instead:
Grab a cart and load it up with items (some perishable). Ask an associate for help and keep them busy as long as you can draw it out. Go through the checkout line but suddenly recall that you left your wallet/purse in the car. As you leave to get your wallet/purse leave a note on the counter stating you’ve changed your mind due to their bathroom policy.
Or even make a purchase but bring it back the next day for a refund. Make them use their man-hours and it will cost them money.
I learned this from reading Rules for Radicals. Use their own tactics against them!
Let me throw this out. Women with anorexia have body dysphoria. In other words, they are skinny but they believe themselves to be fat. Should we just start agreeing with them that they’re fat or should we get them mental health care? Will we be called ‘weight-ists’ if we think they are not what they think they are? Is body weight just a social construct?
Hmmm....WHAT IF...people who ‘feel like a dog’ today decide to urinate against counters, or defecate on the floor? Would that mental aberration be accepted and catered to? Maybe someone should find out. Illustrate the absurd by being absurd...
We are looking at this all wrong. As a business, I’d comply and only have 3 bathrooms - each with only one toilet and a sink (half as many as 2 regular bathrooms). If people don’t like it, explain why you did it and tell them to live with the decision that THEY wanted you to make to accommodate .0004% of the population
Lets do this - go with three restrooms. One for “Females or Girls” and one “Males or Boys” and one for “Confused” or “Uncertain”
Don’t you have to shop there first in order to Boycott it?
