Ted Cruz Seeks to Mend Fences with Republican Elites

Ted Cruz has made few friends among Republicans in Washington during his nearly four years in the Senate, but his message to GOP elite as he looks to build support to the party’s presidential nominee is that he would bring more Republicans along with him.

In a private meeting with members of the Republican National Committee, the Cruz campaign’s high command, including campaign manager Jeff Roe, strategist David Polyansky, and delegate-hunters Ken Cuccinelli and Saul Anuzis, made the case for Cruz as the party’s stronger choice for the general election and argued he’d help down-ballot GOP races. Mathematically eliminated from winning the GOP nomination on the first ballot, Cruz is betting on Donald Trump failing to reach the 1,237 delegates required to win the nomination on the first ballot, and plotting to secure as many of the then-unbound votes as possible.

According to multiple people in the room, Roe pitches the members on Cruz’s commitment to grassroots organizing and cited poll numbers showing Cruz as a better candidate than Trump in the general election. Yet Cruz’s own numbers are less than spectacular, trailing Hillary Clinton in nearly every poll, and often by substantial margins.

Cruz made a late addition to his schedule Wednesday to attend the spring meeting of the RNC at a beachside resort in Hollywood, Fla, where his campaign has arranged an afternoon of small-group meetings with RNC members. The Florida meeting represents the largest gathering of known delegates to the convention,...

Title: Ted Cruz Seeks to Mend Fences with Republican Elites.

Title says it all. So is Ted Tea Party or GOPe?

"Cruz is now in bed with the GOPe all the way."

I don't think the GOPe will allow him in the bed, instead they keep him on the floor on his hands and knees.

No, I do not think Cruz has any illusions about the GOPe and their plans to throw him to the Curb if they can.

I do think Ted believes he can play them even as they seek to use him to stop Trump.

In the end, any raucous, severely divided convention where a candidate who will be as far in the lead at Trump will be will and who then is somehow denied the nomination, will hopelessly split the party.

That seems to be fine with the GOPe.

I do not think it is with Ted...but I believe that he will play into their hands if he tries to use them.

The only path toward clear victory is for Cruz to make peace with Trump, get behind that campaign and unite the Anti-GOPe movement solidly.

I have written to him and said as much too.

His political career is over. He’s burned all his bridges. Insiders and Outsiders have no respect for him.

I'm readin the mail my friend. I've been attempting to remain optimistic regarding Cruz but this is probably the straw that broke the camel's back.

Well I guess so much for bowing out gracefully. This won't end well.

Don’t waste your time Cruz. They hate you already. They will never support you. And they’ll stab you in the back. You committed the ultimate sin of sticking to your guns “shutting down” the government.

It certainly appears so.
The first glimmer for me was cloture on TPA.
Then Corker.
Both of which stand the Constitution on its head as far as when 2/3’s majorities are required.
It always bothered me that he was non-committal on immigration enforcement last spring.
I don’t know whether he was always GOPe and deceiving us or he just decided to join them to further his ambitions, either way, it’s not good.

I think Ted hates Trump so much that he will be fine with a white knight candidate. He’ll make some deal to be VP or something and give the GOP anything they want.

In fact, Ted’s father, Rafael, says Hillary is better than Trump. This is about revenge pure and simple.

Cruz is now in bed with the GOPe all the way.

Cruz's "amazing ground game" is, in reality, the GOPE using him to stop Trump.

All those delegates that Cruz thinks he won for the 2nd ballot? He will be shocked how many will desert him when their GOPE masters tell them to jump.

It starts by kissing that spot they marked off on the left cheek, Teddy. You’ve already done the right one.

Yes, these articles plus Cruz spokesperson on Hannity pretty well indicated no graceful departure...

So glad Cruz is for putting USA first above his own ambition :(

“The first glimmer for me was cloture on TPA.”

Cruz is a politician first. The whole act of shutting the government down, etc.. was just that, an act. He knew the players who would be running in 2016 2 years ago and he used his time in the senate to create his outsider image. It was the only lane he had and it was all his until a man named Donald swept the SEC primaries.

That’s why Cruz and his campaign are so spiteful and deceitful. They would have had this nomination wrapped up, but it was “Trumped” from them. They will be bitter to the end and will destroy the party.
