Bernie Sanders smashes the Israel status quo
CNN ^ | 04/16/2016 | Jeremy Diamond

New York (CNN)Bernie Sanders is taking a sledgehammer to the political status quo on Israel.

Sanders refused to back down Thursday night from his claim that Israel in 2014 used "disproportionate" force to respond to Hamas rocket fire from Gaza while calling for the United States to stop being "one-sided" in the conflict there. In doing so, he upended a long-standing tenet of American politics: that unflinching support for Israel is non-negotiable.

Sanders' unorthodox remarks at CNN's Democratic debate came just days before voters head to the polls in New York, where Sanders is fighting to narrow the significant, but not insurmountable, deficit he faces against former New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Bernie Sanders’ background comes from the European Jewish Labour Bund, who were opposed to Zionism, because they felt having Jews move to then-Palestine would detract from their goal of a Worldwide Socialist Revolution; so they’ve always hated the State of Israel.

his claim that Israel in 2014 used "disproportionate" force to respond to Hamas rocket fire from Gaza

Aside from that being simply false, it's not exactly the smartest strategy heading into the NY primary.

Bernie is an enemy of Israel, yes. But where has the article author been the last 7 years that he claims Bernie would change anything? Obama has been trying to destroy Israel from the git-go

under Bernie, or Hillary for that matter, there would be no significant change from this deplorable situation

The object of war is to win, not play to an endless draw.
Bernie is a fool.

The anti-Semitism in the Democrat Party is worse than any racial hatred in the Republican Party. And it’s wide out in the open too.

If the holocaust were occurring today, you would see Bernie Sanders telling the Nazi guards “Look a Jew get him” Sanders would love nothing more than to see Israel wiped off the map and he would have a smile on his face while its happening

Actually with US Jews, abortion trumps everything else. Ask any of them, they could care less about Israel, its the last thing on their list, #1 is making sure that women can still murder their babies

Then scream like a Banshee when it was his turn to go to the showers.

Sanders would be the first to renounce his Jewish faith to save his own a@@..he’s only doing this because he needs the Muslim Jihadist and far lefty Jew hating vote..it was sickening watching that debate and seeing those clowns in the audience applaud him as he trashed Israel

There is the possibility that Bernie is distancing himself from Israel for political reasons—to solidify the Leftist vote (as Leftists hate Israel). If so, if he actually gets elected POTUS, he would then change his tune.

But, I’m more inclined to think he’s being truthful because he’s a self-hating Jew.

That is not true for ALL. But, sadly, it is true for too many. A lot of people are smart professionally, but dumb as a rock politically. Many Jews fall into this category. They unconditionally champion Muslim immigration with absolutely no idea how it will impact them in 10-20 years.

Hamas has barbarically attacked Israel for years. I find it difficult to see how one can argue Israel is morally obligated to show more restraint in response. But the fact is that they do way way way way way way way more restraint than what they are morally obligated to do. They are an extremely tolerant and patient people in the face of absurd and continued provocation.

That's a bit of an overstatement. I was born and raised in a large leftist Jewish neighborhood, and personally know many them who give money to Israel. But way too many of them are deluded in thinking that a 2-state solution will solve the longstanding conflict.

What's interesting is that liberal American Jews' support for Israeli military action depends on which party the PM at the time belongs to. If it's Labor, then the support is virtually unanimous. If it's Likud, support is less enthusiastic.

But you're right that among liberal American Jews, abortion is always at or near the top of political concerns.

Enjoy the Antichrist Bernie. You just may get to meet him.

His False Prophet religious guy will have a little ‘666’ tattoo for you.

I would advise you not take it, trust me. Well, trust Revelation chapter 13.

[[At several points the audience at the debate responded enthusiastically to Sanders’ comments on Palestinians

Sanders’ focus on Palestinian rights during the debate was “extraordinary.”

rancorous relationship between President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

smashed a taboo that could lead others to follow suit.

Sanders’ nationally televised stance could represent a watershed moment in Democratic politics

Sanders is taking a sledgehammer to the political status quo on Israel.

CNN seems positively, rapturously giddy that their champion bernie is calling for an end to supporting Israel vigorously

Hamas is engaging in an assymetric war, by design.

Assymetric implies that the response must be “disporoportionate” because the Israelis don’t have the luxury of being able to conduct cowardly terror attacks and scurrying back into the woodwork like cockroaches.

So Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were all “disproportionate” responses? Can you imagine Sanders or others of his ilk in charge of the military during a real crisis situation or a war?
