If youve ever paid taxes, you probably agree that the tax code is entirely too complicated. To that end, you would probably also enjoy having a simple, easy-to-understand one-page form that you can fill out in about ten minutes and be done with your taxes. For what its worth, the Tax Man agrees with you.
I dont have many nice things to say about IRS Commissioner John Koskinen (in fact, Congress should impeach him ), but when asked at a Congressional hearing this week about the flat tax, this was his response:
Clearly, if you had a two-page form or a one-page form where you got rid of all the deductions and everything else and people just paid in effect either a flat tax or a graduated flat tax it would be simpler for taxpayers and it would be much simpler for us.

That wasn’t his idea, though.
A retired radio talk show host coauthored some books about the flat tax years ago.
That was Neal Boortz. It would be very interesting to see it implemented. I'm not saying I'm a proponent, but just to see the power of the IRS destroyed would be worth a shot.
All tax revenue would first go to national defense. Then entitlements. Obviously, many gov. programs would have to be drastically slashed or eliminated. That sure would be a tragedy. /s
Actually, most people would prefer to have an extremely complicated and difficult to understand system, under which they would pay no tax at all, while everyone else would have to pay.
A flat tax does nothing to stop the IRS from intimidating conservative advocacy groups.
Income taxation is the problem. It is Big Brother constantly looking over your shoulder; a totally unbalanced relationship where the taxpayer is completely at the mercy of the bureaucrats.
We can change the income tax laws until hell freezes over, yet government bullying of the taxpayer will not end until income is no longer taxed.
I saw on TV a speech once by Steve Jobs. He noted that, "Most people don't have any interest in earning a million dollars. What most people want to do is spend a million dollars."
So true. Tax spending, not earnings.
1. Eliminate ALL corporate tax.
1a. Eliminate ALL depletion allowances and depreciation allowances.
2. Eliminate ALL current IRS regulations.
3. Set the individual tax rate at 10% regardless of income.
3a. Perquisites at taxed at 10% of cost.
3b. Withhold at the rate of 11%, to get a refund you have to file taxes, but there is no legal imperative to file.
4. Tax ALL money coming into the country at 0% (yes, ZERO%).
5. Tax ALL money leaving the country at 10%.
Surely, you’ve seen the ultimate, very simple IRS tax form of the future?
1. How much money did you make last year?
2. Send it in.
“Actually, most people would prefer to have an extremely complicated and difficult to understand system, under which they would pay no tax at all, while everyone else would have to pay.”
Very close to half of all people in some states have this right now.
1. Eliminate ALL corporate tax. YES
1a. Eliminate ALL depletion allowances and depreciation allowances. YES
2. Eliminate ALL current IRS regulations. YES
3. Set the individual tax rate at 10% regardless of income. OK
3a. Perquisites at taxed at 10% of cost. NO
3b. Withhold at the rate of 11%, to get a refund you have to file taxes, but there is no legal imperative to file. NO
4. Tax ALL money coming into the country at 0% (yes, ZERO%). OK
5. Tax ALL money leaving the country at 10%. OK
6 out of 8, not bad.
Anything’s an improvement over what we’ve got right now.
Pretty much!
Correct you are, good sir. As long as we have a graduated tax system with exemptions and deductions we will have corruption in Congress. The tax code is from whence Congress derives its power and obscene corruption A national sales tax with no exemptions and no income tax will remove the power of corruption that is Congress.
Considering we each now owe hundreds of thousands in terms of national debt, the gubmint has taken all our income
3b. Eliminate withholding period. Everyone writes a check for their taxes at the end of the year. See how long our current system lasts. Employers shouldn’t be tax collectors anyway.
Which is why they won't do it.
Not a bad idea, indeed, it is a great idea, withholding makes taxes relatively painless, and is by far the worst thing to come out of WWII.
But I think it’s too big a first step.
Some time after the Nully Plan, it becomes feasible to phase that in. My plan, unlike the current plan, would allow anyone to predict and plan for their taxes.
The intermediate step is to have people write a monthly tax check. Painful, but not enough to get their full undivided attention like an annual payment.
That’s next, and is essential to get people to really pay attention to government expenses.
I have always thought that income withholding was a stroke of genius by those who design to take as much of our money as they can possibly get away with.
