I've been thinking about this - at the start I was very excited about Cruz and thought Trump was just being his asshole self.
Over the course of this - Trump has allowed us to get to know him, his quirks, his sense of humor and his life story. There is a coherent integrity about Trumps narrative.
Cruz seems to have gone just the other way become less transparent and what I have gotten to see is fairly nasty.
As observers we pick up on lots more stuff than just policy and ideology we also get a measure of kindness and decency. I didn't have a high bar for Trump but Cruz set a very high bar for himself as this conservative paragon of virtue and intellect.
Now Trump comes across as somebody I know and have known my entire life and Cruz comes across as just another little nasty slimy politician.

I have no idea what that means, but it made me chuckle... not once, but twice today. First after reading it, then I was eating breakfast at the diner and saw a rather pale guy walk in and though “bread faced mutant...” and chuckled again.
I had to re find this thread to say thanks for adding a new non-vulgar adjective phrase to my vocabulary :)
