RNC member: Trump can win with 1,100 delegates
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/13/16 9:05 AM | Pete Kasperowicz

Posted on 04/13/2016 7:00:47 AM PDT by nralife

Republican National Committee member Randy Evans said Wednesday that Donald Trump would likely be able to secure the Republican nomination if he captures anything more than 1,100 delegates, short of the 1,237 delegates needed for a simple majority.

"If Donald Trump exceeds 1,100 votes, he will become the nominee even though he may not have 1,237," Evans said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Evans' comment is good news for Trump if it's a sentiment shared by other RNC members, since Trump is at risk of falling short of a majority of delegates by the time of the convention in July. But Evans also warned that if Trump slips much more, the nomination would likely fall to someone else.

Lowering the asserted bar before jerking the rug out from under.

Having enough to unquestionably WIN on the first ballot is the only way to stop the GOPe shenanigans.

“Trump can win with 1,100 delegates”

Obviously.

Cruz is wasting everyone’s time.

He should drop out now and get a real job.

I think his speculation amounts to Trump being able to get 1237 votes on the first ballot, with a combination of 1100 delegated bound by state part rules, and the remainder made of delegates who are not bound to a candidate by state rules.

The unbound delegates are NOT part of the delegate counting that preoccupies the press.

Cruz is making Trump a better candidate. Proof: Trump hired Manafort to improve gathering of delegates.

"...Who is this person and what is this all about?..."

It is about Donald Trump.
He is a businessman from New York seeking election to be POTUS.
The story is getting occasional media coverage.

Ain't gonna happen!

This guy maybe RNC member but he has no say so as to allowing Trump to "win" without winning 1,237!

Makes as much sense as stopping car or horse races during last lap without crossing the finish line - or how about shutting down base ball games at the bottom of the 8th inning or football game early in the 4th quarter!

I think not!

My fantasy Trump rally takes place in Yankee Stadium. Reggie Jackson, and Pete Rose make endorsement speeches for Trump before 60,000 Trumpsters in attendance.

I've been saying this all along. Worse case scenario for Trump is to be around 1100 delegates. Then he will need to make a deal with either Kasich or Rubio (who will have close to 400 delegates between them). A more likely scenario is for Trump to be just shy (maybe 1175-1200) in which case it's even an easier deal to make.

Cruz will be sitting at around 800 delegates in a best scenario for him. More likely, he'll be closer to 650 as he's going to get shut out in a lot of the upcoming states.

It's a Cruzer pipe dream that he comes in a distant second and still manages to block Trump from the nomination. Window for Cruz has closed and it will get nailed shut after NY next week.

“Trump hired Manafort to improve gathering of delegates.”

This stuff is useless in the general election. It’s just a waste of time.

Cruz can’t beat Trump in the delegate count. He should just get out.

This is just a bad precedent. I bet Jeb is wishing he had never gotten out. In the next primary, nobody will drop out, ever.

Smart Ass. Who is Randy Evans and why the magic number 1100? Or don’t you know either?

:)
