Meet the Rules Committee: 112 people who may decide the Republican nominee

The Republican National Convention Rules Committee is the most powerful group you've never heard of -- it will set the rules of the convention and could potentially keep John Kasich off the ballot, open the battle to House Speaker Paul Ryan or create a dozen other different scenarios that decide the result.

Its power is only limited by the political constraints of Republican Party leaders worried about the long-term effects of Donald Trump winning or losing the nomination.

"He who writes the rules, rules -- as the old saying goes," said Gary Emineth, former chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party and expert on the party's rules. "I think it's going to boil down to how strong Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are and how close they are."

Here's everything you need to know about the Rules Committee:

Who's on the committee?

The Rules Committee is comprised of 112 delegates --- mostly party leaders, longtime members of the Republican National Committee and lawyers who understand legislative process.

The 56 delegations to the national convention -- one for every state, the five U.S. territories and Washington, D.C. -- will each select two members for the committee each, one man and one woman.

(Delegations will also pick their members for the three other committees: platform, credentials and permanent organization.)

Each one of the delegations will have significant power on its own -- if delegates supporting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz can win a majority on the Texas delegation, for example, they could pack the rules panels with two Cruz supporters.

The Republican National Committee will retain quite some power over the panel. Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus will select the chairman of the panel from the 112 delegates selected...

Maybe Roger Stone can Tweet out their personal information so they can be bullied and intimidated.

Bottom line. If Trump shows up at the convention with a clear majority of delegates and the most popular votes of people who actually voted and is somehow denied the nomination, not only will the vile Hillary Clinton become President but the Republican Party itself will shatter and ceases to be a credible political entity.

I have said this again and again until it sticks:

If there is a Brokered Convention and G.O.P pisses away it's momentum with Shenanigans, than they are going to Lose in November, even if Cruz is the Nominee.

Whoever it is going to be needs to win outright. Too Much Bad Blood would have been brewed in our own ranks for the Repub Nominee to win. (We control our own destiny, 2016 is ours to lose)

And The GOPe and Bosses are perfectly fine with a loss.

Why? Because what difference would it make? Hillary is Pres? oh no....They still have their Buffets, Their Crackers and Cheese and they get to go to Nine Rivers Country Club every Sunday, so shut up base.

I’m going to keep calm and focus on the April 26 Pennsylvania primary where I plan to vote for Mr. Trump. In November, I plan to vote for Mr. Trump even if I have to write in his name because I’m voting for his political platform not the current business models of both parties.

Whether Cruz or Trump is the nominee is far less important than beating Hillary or Bernie. How about we focus our name-calling and attacks on the democrats. When we attack our fellow republicans, we only drive the negatives of the republican candidates up. Perhaps if we spent more time attacking Hillary and Bernie, the democrat negatives and the republican positives would go up. Then we might stand a chance in November.

I think the GOP lost it’s integrity in the late 1990s. It’s mostly a puppet organization....attached to some lobbyists....who used to have some journalists as their mouthpieces to keep the public thrilled or attached. After the convention....I think around thirty to forty percent of the people who felt that Trump or Cruz would be the choice...will be so disgusted that they will either NOT vote in the fall, or vote Democrat (straight ticket). Don’t count on those voters coming back for at least a decade.

Let us face the reality, Cruz would be defeated by Hillary, one way or another. He is not all that liked either right now.

The first event will surely happen but the second event has already occurred.

[not only will the vile Hillary Clinton become President but the Republican Party itself will shatter and ceases to be a credible political entity.]

And Cruz would not be able to get rid of the stink of being one of those involved with pushing for this to happen. I hope the populous of Texas does not forget that in 2018.

Why call them rules committee?

They are like the old Soviet Union Politburo Members.

Cruz is very bright but he is also is preachy, loves to hear himself talk, and doesn’t know when to shut up. Those are not very endearing traits in a candidate. He also comes across as someone who thinks and acts like a lawyer 24X7. He’s not very likable and therefore not electable IMO. Maybe he can transform his image but it will take a major makeover to make him into someone that American people can relate to.

Two men have the power to prevent that. If they do not, both of their names will live in infamy.

If he has majority, 1237 or more, I agree. If he has plurality, Cruz wins.

And people love Hilary and trump? Those are the only two people with higher negatives.

Pray Hilary is the nominee then. Because she make him likable.
