High Ranking Defectors may be sign of North Korean regime instability

Kim Jong-un’s succession to the throne (is there another more proper term for it?) of North Korea has not been greeted with universal acclaim in that country.  After executing his own uncle and conducting sweeping purges intended to solidify his control, it appears that his hold on power remains uncertain.  Now, with a very high-ranking defector reported to have fled to South Korea and numerous lower-ranking defectors fearing purges also jumping ship, the world’s only three-generation hereditary communist dynasty may be seeing its last days.

Fox News reports:

A high-ranking officer from North Korea's military intelligence agency fled to South Korea last year, the Seoul government confirmed Monday.

The colonel, whose name was withheld by the South Korean government, worked for the North Korean military's General Reconnaissance Bureau. The agency is believed to be behind two deadly attacks blamed on Pyongyang that killed 50 South Koreans in 2010.

The General Reconnassance Bureau also deals in cyberwarfare, and it is widely suspected of being behind the 2014 hack attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment.

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported that the colonel is viewed as an elite member of North Korean society by other defectors from the Communist dictatorship.

"He is believed to have stated details about the bureau's operations against South Korea to authorities here," the agency quoted a source as saying.

The announcement of the colonel's defection came three days after South Korea revealed 13 North Koreans working at the same restaurant in a foreign country had defected to the South, the largest group defection since North Korea's young leader Kim Jong Un took power in late 2011. South Korean media reported the restaurant is located in the eastern Chinese city of Ningbo. (snip)

Kim Jong Un balloons to 300 pounds as famine nears

EXCERPT:

Portly North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, whose hostile actions have brought crippling international sanctions to his impoverished nation, has a new message for the Hermit Kingdom’s starving masses: Get ready to eat plant roots.

Kim, whose weight the South Korean government estimates has ballooned to nearly 300 pounds, signaled through state media that the nation could be headed for another famine like the one that killed an estimated 3.5 million people in the 1990s.

“The road to revolution is long and arduous,” an editorial in the state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper said Monday, according to The Telegraph. “We may have to go on an arduous march, during which we will have to chew the roots of plants once again.”

“Arduous march” in North Korean is code for famine. It’s how state media described the disaster that struck when Kim was a mere teen, which experts say was brought on by the economic mismanagement of his father, Kim Jong Il, loss of foreign aid and natural disasters.

Maybe the beloved leader was seen inspecting his execution artillery after it received a good spit shine and folks simply took the hint?

I think the coming famine will the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

The reason for the nuke activity is to blackmail the West into providing food. You would think allies Russia and China would provide food aid for them.
Some allies, huh.

I think you are right. Other high-ranking defectors have said that the troops are so obsessed with finding food that they have little interest in engaging in battle.

How do you get an entire platoon of North Koreans to surrender?

Offer them a box of Ding Dongs.

How many of these “high ranking” defectors are leaving one step ahead of the firing squad?

Sanders and Hillery supporters take note, eating roots because no other food source is available is where communism takes you. All the while, the leadership lives like kings.

Regime “defectors” probably just saw what was going on in the GOPe and wanted to be a part of it.

Russia and China have short arms and low pockets.

"The reason for the nuke activity is to blackmail the West into providing food. You would think allies Russia and China would provide food aid for them. Some allies, huh."

Some years ago China sent a train load of food to NK and the NK wouldn't return the train....said it was theirs now.

China trains carrying aid to North Korea have history of not returning

"Customs sources said that not enough trains were available to carry the food as trains that had previously crossed the bridge into North Korea had failed to return. "

Connecting the dots:

1- testing nukes

2- expanding and restarting plutonium plant

3- testing ballistic missiles and firing firecrackers in the ocean in between real missile tests

To do all this and to buy food from China, they need $billions. They are getting the billions from Iran who hired them as a plant for manufacturing nukes while Iran going through any inspection will be clean as a whistle.

Iran who acquired missile technology from Pakistan would be transferring the technology of tipping missiles with nukes to NK.

Very soon you’ll see that the claim of 0b0z0 of Iran transferring 98% of their nuke material out of Iran (supposedly to Russia) is not true. It’s further enriched in the Iranian manufacturing facilities in NK with no way of stopping them.

I’m never t sure China is very happ about this, but they’re supporting Iran and want their money and oil.

There you have it.

Only IMO.

>> I think the coming famine will the straw that breaks the camel’s back <<

I was talking the other day to a former South Korean army intelligence officer, who thinks the North Korean regime is bound to fall within ten years, probably much sooner, due mainly to growing economic problems. Let’s just hope ex-Prez J. E. Carter or a Carter clone won’t be able to bail the Norks out again, the way Carter did in 1994.

Two ‘would-be hitmen’ are arrested on Chinese border as they ‘tried to enter North Korea in a bid to ASSASSINATE dictator Kim Jong-un’

Hitmen ‘planning to kill’ Kim Jong-un have been arrested, it is claimed

They were reportedly arrested near Tumen River at the border with China

North Korean guards who detained them were apparently rewarded

One suspect is said to be a defector and at least one is a Chinese national

Thanks for the URL.

The financial pressure and the hunger in NK was a natural way to get rid of Kim through a military coup supported by the Chinese.

After billions from Iran spent on developing missiles and nukes and relieving the financial pressure, China may have to assassinate Kim.

No way that “two assassins” will cross from China in NK without the consent of the Chinese government. China has to be ready for turmoil and refugees spilling into China.
