Beaumont police say a teacher was arrested Friday after video on Twitter showed her slapping a student on the head.

Hastings was arrested and charged with assault. She has been released on bail at this time.
Ozen High School has placed Hastings on administrative leave, and the school district has released this statement:

There’s no amount of money (even $200,000 a year) that you could offer to me to teach in any urban zone of the US. I’d lose my patience with students and other teachers.
Our teachers had long mallet looking smackers and used them.

She should be given a Teacher Of The Year award. Doing the discipline that parents wont due because of laziness and govt nanny state interference.
His welfare queen mama could beat him to death and CPS would turn a blind eye, but a white teacher is not allowed to scowl at one of Obama’s sons.
My mom and dad would have slapped me again and then brought her a gift. But we aren’t in the 60s.
My PE teachers used the sole of a Converse tennis shoe. One kept a bucket full of paddles in various shapes and sizes, one of which was a 1-inch thick middle of a baseball bat. Me and some other kid got caught talking in health when class the coach stepped into the hallway for a bit. When he came there were just yakking it up.
Coach pulled the bucket out of the closet and made us choose our poison. I took the smallest thinking that wouldn’t hurt as much and the other kid took the sawn baseball bat. I grabbed my ankles and got my swat first and he smacked my ass hard and left a huge welt. Then when he went to the other kid who was bent over at the ready when Coach stepped up to his backside like Reggie Jackson waiting on 3-0 pitch and swang with all his might. But just when he was about to make contact he checked his swing and then just lightly tapped him!
Not sure what that means but am going to show wife unit because she loves cat stuff.
What really truly hurt was when you got more red ones on top of the blue ones.
You learned to behave at least until the other ones cleared up.
Back in Jr High 1969 a gym teacher was summoned to the cafeteria to break up a disturbance. As he was entering I yelled out ‘here comes mighty mouse’. He grabbed my hair and slammed my face into the table and then proceeded on to the disturbors. Nobody said boo after that including big mouthed me. I deserved it but no big deal. Nowadays faggedaboudit-lawyer up.

Our Vice Principal in high school carried a similar “Board of Education.”
Now, I wouldn't touch it. There's just too much that can go very wrong, and the teacher will be put in an impossible situation or in a situation where they just "lose it".
That being said, this looks like one real unhappy woman. I'm wondering about what led up to this over-reaction.
My HS math teacher had one of those and you could hear it echo down the hallway when he put it to use......
Had a tennis friend who was a high school principal. It was his job to paddle offending students.
He told me one time as the paddle was getting ready to strike, the student put up his arm to protect himself and the paddle struck his arm, breaking it.
The sisters in my Catholic school did much worse, with a ruler.
The brothers whomped the boys. One even cut a boy’s hair because it was too long.
I was told if I took my hands off my ankles I would get 2 more and the class was to be the judge to verify whether I took my hands off!
Got smacked with those plenty in my youth. Last time was in the Principle’s office. I had told a girl in my class that “her living bra died of starvation”. She made a big scene and it disrupted the class.
Principle asked me where I heard that. I told him on the Carol Burnett show last night.
He was breaking up laughing, but he paddled me all the same. HARD!
