anything we might believe is largely speculative.Well, I'd say entirely speculative. A question that interests me is to what extent we will learn about those things on which the Bible is silent--or will we even care then?

Yes, that interests me, too.
Regarding the issue of “speculative,” orthodox belief rules out some notions, such as that Jesus became divine at some point after His conception.

Dunno. Didn’t see it. Saw some outakes and it shook me to the core. Don’t ever want to see it. But I know what He did for us.

Dont ever want to see it.Two responses:
1. Being God, Jesus knew ahead-of-time exactly what He would endure and did it anyway.
2. Because Jesus' divine conception of time is multi-dimensional, He is always aware of past, present, and future; therefore, for all eternity, in some real sense He remains on that cross. I, too, am squeamish: I've seen it once and haven't yet re-viewed it, whereas He lives it constantly--and willingly. It's more than I can take in.

orthodox belief rules out some notions, such as that Jesus became divine at some point after His conception.I'm constrained to add that that belief is based completely on straightforward understanding and interpretation of inspired Scripture, thereby leaving belated human speculation entirely aside.

....."BUT - Jesus DID perform the miracle.".....
Jesus was put on the spot, so to say. If He ignored His mother, would he not break a commandment to honor His mother? He would not have been sinless. He had the ability, as He had been baptized with the Holy Spirit and His ministry was already started. If mom tells you to take out the trash and you aren't in a wheelchair, is it not right to obey her?

... that belief is based completely on straightforward understanding and interpretation of inspired Scripture, thereby leaving belated human speculation entirely aside.I agree, but this hasn't stopped people from proposing it, as well as other ideas that are clearly excluded by Scripture. I remember a few years ago, an Episcopal priestess who is the daughter of Justice Steven Breyer published a column in a major newspaper proposing that Jesus had a natural human father ... just as if she was the first one ever to think of it.

It is ever thus, as Romans 1 educates us. Thanks for adding those insights to the conversation.
PS--The Spirit inspired me to begin compiling a list of Christians I've met at any time during my life whom I'll see again in heaven. It's a fun retrospective, thinking back and recalling, with His help, all those people from every area and era in my life. Not only fun, but also a spur to prayer for them, a list now encompassing several hundred souls. And you're definitely on it--although the vast majority of the listees have real names instead of "henkster" or "Tax-chick."

It’s always a pleasure chatting with you, on any subject.
Something I do to pass the time when waiting in line or mopping the floor is to pray for my friends and FRiends alphabetically: A is for ... Amy. B is for ... Bob. C is for ... “Covenantor.” D is for ... “Darksheare.” God knows who they really are and what their needs are.

Yes, that was so difficult, day after day of echoing silence ...
I’m behind on the pre-Civil War news, but I’ve started the biography of General Grant.

I'm aware of Homer's new series but am not led to follow this one. In the 2000s I read Shelby Foote's three-volume history, which pretty much sated me on the subject for the present. Enjoy US's bio.
We had only two children, both daughters. Had we had a son I favored "Paul," but my wife liked "Peter Andrew." So, since our last name begins with "L," I proposed this compromise: Peter Andrew Ulysses Lewis: PAUL. Two girls.

LOL! I wanted to name a son Nathan Forrest Lastname, but that would have given him NFL for his initials. His name is Thomas Jackson Lastname, instead.
