(Reuters) - A third of Republican voters who support Donald Trump could turn their backs on their party in November's presidential election if he is denied the nomination in a contested convention, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The results are bad news for Trump's rivals as well as party elites opposed to the real estate billionaire, suggesting that an alternative Republican nominee for the Nov. 8 presidential race would have a tougher road against the Democrats.
"If it’s a close election, this is devastating news" for the Republicans, said Donald Green, an expert on election turnout at Columbia University.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted March 30 to April 8 asked Trump’s Republican supporters two questions: if Trump wins the most delegates in the primaries but loses the nomination, what would they do on Election Day, and how would it impact their relationship with the Republican Party?
Sixty-six percent said they would vote for the candidate who eventually wins the nomination, while the remaining third were split between a number of alternatives such as not voting, supporting a third-party candidate, and switching parties and voting for the Democratic nominee.
Meanwhile, 58 percent said they would remain with the Republican Party. Another 16 percent said they would leave it, and 26 percent said they did not know what they would do with their registration. The online poll of 468 Republican Trump supporters has a credibility interval of 5.3 percentage points.

They are not going to listen. They are depending on, like they have always depended, loyal sheep to hold their nose and hope once again.
It will be enough of a difference to be devastating to their chances of beating Hillary. The margin they NEED is in those disaffected, disappointed voters whose votes and wishes may just well be ignored for “party unity”.

If there are any more shenanigans, the best thing Trump could do is run as a third party candidate.
The GOPe’s are not concerned about Hillary winning the Presidency.
Hillary will keep the corrupt DC gravy train moving along nicely.
What the GOPe’s are really concerned about is the ballot down
effects of screwing Trump out of the nomination.
It is possible the GOP ballot down candidates will be wiped out.
And that is what scares the GOPe’s most.
To me they’re Democrap operatives whose only agenda is get Hitlery elected. They know damn well if they nominate Mutt Romney or his side kick Eddie Munster they will lose the election but they don’t care because they want her as POTUS. It’s been one big farce going back to McCain, they nominate these Democrat operatives to give you the illusion you have a choice but now Trump is threatening that so they are whining “Waaaah but if he’s POTUS we can’t sell out the country waaaaah!”
I will absolutley not vote if Trump gets railroaded.

Trump will get at least 90-95 percent of the way to a majority of the delegates. Ted Cruz or any other Republican has no path to the presidency because once they maneuver to get rid of Trump, his very passionate followers who are already mad at the GOP-e will bolt.. I would vote for the nominee, but let’s be realistic here, no one besides Trump has any path to the Presidency..
