Trump convention manager: 'Winning isn't enough'
CNN ^ | April 8, 2016 | Julia Manchester

Donald Trump's convention manager, Republican strategist Paul Manafort, described his new role in the campaign Friday, saying it shows the billionaire's signature leadership style.

"This is an example of Donald Trump managing, and the type of leadership he will bring to the presidency in November," Manafort said in an exclusive interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo. "He also understood that winning isn't enough, that it's about how you win and how much you win."

Manafort told CNN, "I work directly for the boss," a notable departure from the usual workflow at Trump's 2016 operation, where most campaign staff answer to campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

...the strategist says he is confident the Cruz campaign will hit a rough patch, allowing Trump to win the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination outright.

"Utah and New York are two different states," he said. "By the time we get to California, the momentum is going to be clear, and Ted Cruz's path to victory will be in shambles."

Technical details matter. If far out ahead and no one else able to win, then momentum is a details issue.

It’s about @#$@#$ing time.

I think Trump is finally realizing the ground game and the best people are needed to seal the deal.

the rules aren’t fair, but life isn’t, and he needs to fight back hard and strong.

Wah wah, it isn’t fair.

The rules are the same for every candidate. The principle that the candidate needs to demonstrate support of a majority of the party is well founded in reason and history.

The MSM slant on this. Trump had to shake up his team...

No, the things taking place before continue under the exact same leadership. Noting changed there.

This is an additional effort, and Trump wants both men to focus on their tasks at hand.

Why should Lewandowski have to spend less time thinking about his current duties?

The media never grasp true leadership, because none of them have experienced it.

Lebowski got Trump where he is. Not sure throwing him under the bus is the best thing to do.

Not sure moving even more under Roger Stone’s guidance is the best thing for Trump.

The GOPe is trying to save Cruz (very reluctantly they don’t mind saying since they can’t stand Cruz) because he’s the way to save “the party”. They’ve said that over and over again....saving Cruz is because he’s the only way to save the Republican Party that has betrayed us over and over.

I don’t care about the Republican party anymore...why should I? It’s unrequited. I care about saving the United States of America.

Right, Corey is already doing the full time jobs of 2 people: Campaign manger and head of security. Trump just added more expertise to his team.

that’s why I said life’s not fair.

it’s a silly excuse.

not sure if that was directed at me or trump.

Trump is wise. There is no substance to the charge, but Lewandowski will be distracted at the beginning of May by his court appearance.

Additionally, there is a clear delineation of responsibility. Lewandowski runs the daily campaign.

Manafort tracks delegate issues. Both are crucial enough to require their own supervisor with both reporting to the CEO.

Of course. And it’s so simple a child could understand it.

And given enough time, Cruznoids will too.

Now, we’re bragging about Trump’s desperation hire of Manafort??

What about the GOPe being the enemy? Most of Manafort’s political work has been with the Bushes, etc.

Manafort also has ties to Russian mobsters. Apparently, he’ll work for anyone.

"Utah and New York are two different states,"

Yeah, they are. Utah actually delivers electoral votes to the GOP candidate in the fall. New York does not.

For the record, the last time Utah gave electoral votes to a Democrat was in LBJ's 44 state landslide in 1964.

The last time New York gave electoral votes to a Republican was in Ronald Reagan's 49 state landslide in 1984.

So, you’re agreeing that they are quite different. Good. New York has 95 delegates up for grabs.

“What about the GOPe being the enemy? Most of Manafort’s political work has been with the Bushes, etc.”

One of Manafort’s first jobs was with Ronald Reagan. It’s good to hire Reagan people. You’re just filling the forum with irrelevant spin.

Paul J. Manafort is an American lobbyist and political consultant. He was an adviser to the presidential campaigns of Republicans Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, and George W. Bush, and is currently employed by the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, as well as being a senior partner in the firm Davis, Manafort and Freedman.
