WEEK News 25 in Peoria reports that the Peoria International Airport was partially evacuated due to a bomb threat, and officials have a woman in custody.

TSA officials say a woman attempted to check a package at the American Airlines counter at about 6:30 p.m.. Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy told 1470 WMBD that the package contained dynamite, a timer and bottles of fluid, which were found during a routine scan by TSA officials.

The scan was confirmed when authorities opened the package using a robot. The woman is being questioned by authorities.

Flights were delayed at the airport for nearly three hours due to the threat. Traffic was backed up for about a half mile on the nearby Dircksen Parkway while officials investigated the threat, but traffic is now moving.

However, officials say they are taking necessary precautions with the explosives. Police are still investigating the threat, and no injuries have been reported.

Update: Local news is now reporting that it was not dynamite but red sticks labeled "dynamite".

Sounds like someone doing a test run to determine the effectiveness of security.

the fact that she was trying to check rather than carry-on tells us something about her national origin...

Betch some TSA folks in Peoria have had to go home for a change of underwear!

I’d like to learn more about who the woman was. And her name. Could be some kind of practice run.

One commuter flight from Canada a week is enough to give you the monicker, LOL.

*********************************************************

Direct flights to and from foreign countries.

Just like Cape Girardeau, Mo. is a port of entry. Ships coming into the country up the Mississippi River.

Holy Cow! The latest update is that this woman travels around the country to Planned Parenthood clinics and uses the fake bomb for training.

The news site at the link has other articles referencing Illinois, so I’m guessing this is Peoria, IL and not Peoria, AZ.

Portland (Maine) International Jetport got its name years ago when it 1) introduced commercial jet flights and 2) had a scheduled flight to Montreal.
