Was very fortunate to get a heck of a lot of detail from his widow's pension application.
Wilson's Creek was (is) a very under-appreciated battle as far as it's historical importance.

Not unreasonable at all. There is nothing new under the sun. While our founders tried to set up a system that limits the damage sinful man can inflict, there isn’t a system of governance in the world that can triumph over our sin nature. And those who crave power and control are drawn to roles in government.

The file on the other ancestor at Shiloh was even more interesting. The Widow's Pension file had a fellow soldier's accounts of him falling 100 feet to the east of where Gen, Johnston died. Before too long, I want to make to the battle field, and find that approximate spot.
