Sadly, as much as people like the idea of a non-politician, this is what can happen when you answer hypothetical questions. People criticize Cruz for some of his deflecting on certain questions, but this is a good example of why you don’t answer every question as asked.

I agree. If an action is made illegal, then clearly criminal prosecution would be appropriate if that action is taken. That IS pretty straight forward and self evident.
Yet, I doubt he is supporting making abortion illegal. Just a couple of weeks ago he confirmed that he would support the continued funding of the nation’s leading abortion mill, so it is an argument based on a false premise.

I agree that this is probably taken out of context but there is one option not discussed which is that Trump is looking for a way to say that he’s anti-abortion but that it is politically impossible to totally outlaw it. I hope that’s not the goal. But as far as the woman being punished by the law, as a woman, I’m okay with that. Women still are getting a pass in this culture - the whole women and children first meme. The 15 year old girl who looked 20 who claimed that the old man touched her breast (actually I think she said chest) - so what!!! If you’re street fighting then you had better “man up” and quit whining. Women cannot have it both ways, i.e., “I can kill my baby but you can’t punish me because I’m a woman.” IMHO if you kill your baby you lose all protection that this culture affords women.

Interesting exchange. I like that Trump got Matthews to say he was Catholic, followed the Church doctrines and believed that abortion was immoral.
IMO Trump could have handled it better and smoother. It’s simple, you outlaw abortion and punish business, staff and doctors. If pressed more about the woman, he could have had Matthews admit the woman is a breaking a law then ask Matthews if people should be punished for breaking a laws.
He may someday look back longingly at the good ole days.... back when his disapproval numbers with women were only 74%.
I take this as if abortion is outlawed, and the woman murders her child anyway, she should be punished.
