I agree that this is probably taken out of context but there is one option not discussed which is that Trump is looking for a way to say that he’s anti-abortion but that it is politically impossible to totally outlaw it. I hope that’s not the goal. But as far as the woman being punished by the law, as a woman, I’m okay with that. Women still are getting a pass in this culture - the whole women and children first meme. The 15 year old girl who looked 20 who claimed that the old man touched her breast (actually I think she said chest) - so what!!! If you’re street fighting then you had better “man up” and quit whining. Women cannot have it both ways, i.e., “I can kill my baby but you can’t punish me because I’m a woman.” IMHO if you kill your baby you lose all protection that this culture affords women.

Abortion - like queer marriages - will not and cannot ever be a states right issue.

The Courts have seen to that.

The only option is a Federal ban. An Amendment to the Constitution is best. Along with DC legislative laws.

Except you can’t win merely by what you say no matter how courageous or ballsy.

I have a feeling something is way, way out of context here.

That should be the first reaction of reasonable people... but this primary season hasn't been.

You can expect it, but he sure isn’t saying it.

There are only two issues that seperate the true conservative from the GOPe.

One is Abortion and the other is the Second.

Note now the freepers who goes after Trump. It is in those responses we will know who belongs and who does not.

That is the old way of politics— we should not have to live by those rules and expect honesty from our politicians..

He’ll do anything to make conservatives look bad.

How does Trump making a very conservative remark make “conservatives look bad”?

You are pro abortion, right?

Sounding as nutty as Trump now. The fact is that Pro-lifers have dealt with this matter for many years. Punishing the mother is the fringiest of fringey positions, if it even exists (before today.)

But HEY! Your guy has staked out some new ground for his circus.

After actually reading the article. Cool concept right? He said it.

What he said wasn’t wrong or bad - how it’s going to be used against him is wrong and bad.

Hillary or Bernie will make hay with this one. Probably telling women that trump wants to put any woman in jail who’s had an abortion. Democrats, like most trump supporters, will eat up any lie that they think helps the object of their fandom. The lie will be spread far and wide.

I dont know how you get that.

I just dug out the context from the transcript.

Nothing pro choice at all from Trump.

Just likely ineffective.

Yeah it stands to follow. If something is outlawed and you do it then there is punishment. Sheesh.

Well, after years of all abortion, all the time, that can hardly be used as an excuse anymore.

re: back in the day of illegal abortions, when the abortionist was charged but not the mother

And that didn't stop illegal abortions, did it? A mother is given a precious gift and a sacred obligation, whether her child is pre-born or post separation. In a society that truly values life, the mother is in fact more responsible than is the abortionist. The life of that child is in the mother's hands. How is it that a mother can deliver early and if she lets that child die, it's murder but if she has an abortion at the same stage she doesn't get prosecuted?

I can't imagine how anyone who's truly pro-life isn't going to hold the mother not just morally but criminally responsible.

How is his comment geared toward Cruz supporters?

As a Cruz supporter, I honestly, could care less what Trump says any more. I’ve never heard someone talk about 5 different topics at one time...everything he says is incoherent and even though he repeats the same talking points over and over, generally doesn’t make sense. Add to it, that he switches his positions daily, so what he says today, I’m sure will be different tomorrow.

I honestly don’t know what to think about this particular statement of his, but I agree, the abortionist should be punished, should abortion become illegal, just as anyone committing an illegal act, should pay a consequence. The real question is, who determines what the punishment is? The president?
