On Tuesday during CNN's town hall, Donald Trump was asked what he thinks are the top three functions of government.

He answered, "[t]he greatest function of all by far is security for our nation. I would also say health care, I would also say education."

Republicans have long tried to limit the federal government's involvement in health care and education.

So Trump thinks education and health care are top responsibilities of the federal government. Apparently, he also thinks the federal government is responsible for providing housing and good neighborhoods. Yeah, this guy is a conservative!

Trump has stated previously that the control of education should be sent back to the states. Trumps healthcare plan is on his website. What do you not like about it?

I think Trump, not being a policy wonk, can make minor verbal tactical errors that get latched onto and blown out of proportion.

For example, he’s already stated multiple times he’s for local education. But please continue the hyper critical analysis.

That’s correct...The question wasn’t clear about “federal” government...Trump believes that “state” governments should contro education...He has stated this time and time again...

We all know by now that Trump is clueless. Thanks for confirming. This is how he will be as president. He will betray everyone who votes for him on a consistent basis. He says one thing one day and says something else on another day. He will govern based on how he is feeling on any given day. God help us.

No worries, tomorrow morning Trump will have never actually said that.

On this forum it won’t even take that long.

And he said so tonight. Personally, I think he misinterpreted the question as the 3 biggest priorities for the Federal government -- meaning we have to fix security, healthcare, and education.

But that's just my opinion.

Trump has stated previously that the control of education should be sent back to the states.

...and he just said the opposite. Which is the problem I have with Trump-- I just don't know which things he says are spoken out of conviction, and which are just salestalk he will walk away from when he's elected.

Jeb Cruz is good at memorizing stuff.

Trump doesn’t need to worry about the details just be aware of what sort of unAmerican scams Mitch & Paul Ryan send his way.

Of course we’ll believe it. Trump has been a corrupt Democrat most of his life. He’s just reverting to form. Sorry if you were fooled.

he’s already stated multiple times he’s for local education

He doesn't know what the hell he's for. This is because he has no core principles, no guiding philosophy or morality outside of "greed is good".

He’s doing away with the department of education. What part of that did you miss?

Common core? Gone!

Control back to the states and local communities...

Yep, you’re right. It is Conservative.

Glad you’re on our side, even if you didn’t know it.

Why is it when Trump opens his mouth, which is all the time, that someone has to go behind him and clarify and explain and correct and interpret and on and on.
