Cruz declines to back Trump as nominee
The Washington Examiner ^ | 3/29/2016 | Stephen Dinan

Sen. Ted Cruz refused to say Tuesday whether he would still back Donald Trump if the GOP presidential front-runner wins their party’s nomination, backing away from a firm pledge he made earlier in the campaign.

Mr. Cruz, whose coziness with Mr. Trump last year had pundits saying they were in the middle of a bromance, said that faded once the billionaire businessman began to turn nasty, and particularly in recent days when Mr. Trump has said he would go after Mr. Cruz’s wife.

“I’m not an easy person to tick off, but when you go after my wife, when you go after my daughters, that does it,” Mr. Cruz said at a town hall hosted by CNN in Wisconsin Tuesday night.

He accused Mr. Trump of being behind a thinly sourced story last week in the National Enquirer tabloid that reported Mr. Cruz had engaged in affairs with a handful of women. The story aggregated rumors, and the only named source was Roger Stone, an adviser to Mr. Trump, who said: “These stories have been swirling around Cruz for some time. I believe where there is smoke there is fire.”

Mr. Cruz also backed away from the pledge all of the candidates took last year to back the eventual nominee no matter who it is. Mr. Cruz ducked repeated direct challenges by CNN host Anderson Cooper to take a firm stand, saying instead that his goal now is to make sure he doesn’t face that choice.

“The answer to that is to beat him at the ballot box,” Mr. Cruz said.

Mr. Cooper, though, said Mr. Trump had made controversial statements about women and minorities last year, even as Mr. Cruz was praising him: “Sounds like you were engaged in a love fest,” Mr. Cooper said.

Trumpkins truly are delusional. Even when Trump tweets it using his own account, his supporters pretend it never happened.

Cruz supporters are in denial. Even when Cruz lies straight to people’s faces, his supporters pretend it never happened.

Show me a model that proves me wrong. I’m daring you to explain how you can win without the Cruz supporters.

Don't hold your breath, Chuck. In fact, stand in line. She asked me a question yesterday in response to my query about how many soldiers report to her. I responded that I once served as a Battery Commander of over 300 soldiers, and was awarded an MSM (Meritorious Service Medal) at the conclusion of my command.

She has yet to respond, preferring to marshall the Trump artillery on Cruz. Based on her nonresponse, I can only surmise that she is commanding a desk at a Finance Office somewhere.

I'm in agreement with rational FReepers saying that both sides need to come together, if only to keep Hillary out of the White House. As each day goes by, I am losing faith in the FBI. You'd think they would have something actionable by now.

And Trump refuses to support the Republican nominee unless it’s him. I have a feeling that Trump is going to learn the hard way that opening this can of worms in the first debate will doom his campaign in the general election. The problem with refusing to support the eventual nominee is that if it’s him, the others will not feel compelled to support him. And now, that’s what’s happening.

You could say it’s a case of poor bargaining on his part. Or maybe he doesn’t really want to win anyway. There are a whole lot of things he could have done differently to improve his chances in the general election.

Cruz is eGOP and the eGOP had no intention of backing Trump with their phony “pledge”. I love the fact that Trump signed it so he can shove back up their rears where it came from.

That’s what’s killing me. If this thing goes the distance and nobody has secured enough delegates, they’re both getting thrown under the bus.

This is what the GOPe is hoping happens. The GOPe should write a "How to lose an Election For Dummies" book.

Simple, if someone had spent the last several months telling every one I was a bad guy, crazy, liar, and fraud I would not support him either.

I want to say simply the Scruz is a phoney liar.
He lied about Melania’s picture . He lied about Dr Carson on dropping out in IOWA. He lies about his support of TPP but most of all he lied to his wife about these mistresses, imo. If he will lie to her, HE WILL LIE TO HE PEOPLE. It is my opinion that he has never denied the affairs. ANY OF TREM. Saying that it is “Garbage” is a trick.
He is an anointed “king” in the Seven Mountain Dominionist cult “which must take power before the second coming of Jesus”.
He signed a pledge to support the nominee? Where is it? The RNC didn’t have one from Trump telling him all had sign because the others were signing. I hate the RNC.Did The RNC INSIST ON ONE FROM TRUMP and not from the others .Did they? They told us that ALL CANDIDATES WERE SIGNING THE PLEDGE” I think all bets are off now but I want to see the signed pledge from Scruz. If you are in beautiful Wisconsin thinkin about voting fot Ted Scruz, STOP!!

Cruz is breaking his word. I’m a Cruz backer but Ted gave his word to support the nominee. If he will roll on this what is next?

Cruz will get destroyed by Hillary. He’ll lose women big. He’ll lose Latinos in historic numbers. There’s a reason Cruz is so disliked. It’s because he’s a deeply creepy person.

Your argument may have been viable well before the globalists have plundered our country to the tune of trillions and trillions in debt. If you don’t see the urgency of defeating the globalists before they finally finish this country off, then fine, that is on your conscience.

Yes, Trump is a risk but I believe he is well worth the risk especially if his only success is defeating illegal immigration for the most part. That would set the left years behind in transforming our country to their desires by not allowing the future voters in that would help keep them in power. That alone would at least give conservatism a chance. Although, I do realize, we may be too far down the statist/globalist path but that doesn’t mean we give up.

I believe Donald Trump is a patriot first and foremost (highly successful man, doesn’t really need this, mostly funding with his own money), has all the right enemies, and like us, doesn’t like the path the leftists/globalists have put us on. Too many here treat him like he has been a lifelong politician and treat him as such, although much of what he did in the past was as a businessman. That is a huge difference with what Trump the politician is now. We are just finding out what Trump stands for as a politician and much of what he stands for would be good for our country as well as conservatism.

I don’t buy in the the whole globalist’s cabal narrative of Trump like so many do here. But they do that only to try to defeat him because they fear what a true outsider might to do disrupt their plans for America or their corrupt status quo in Washington DC.

You are acting like our candidate has to be the purest of the pure and a sure thing. In reality, no candidate is a sure thing, never has and never will. Just look how Americans has been manipulated by the globalists, the media, and the GOPe so that they always get their candidate. It’s been a very long time since the American people have a chance to choose their own candidate.

It is a must that we defeat the powers that be that run Washington DC before they tank America. Donald Trump has the demeanor and the patriotism to at least get some positive things done that may set this country on the path of being saved. That is well worth the risk. The alternate would be much blood shed from a civil war to get this country back in order.

We really don’t have many options at this point because on the Democrat side, you have a full blown commie, Bernie Sanders, and commie lite with Hillary Clinton. Ted Cruz really isn’t an option at this point because he so easily surrendered his conservative principles (I’m beginning to question if he had any to begin with) allowing the globalists/GOPe in to help run/be a part of his campaign.

You are free to choose as you will but there IS urgency and we have to get this right. I pray every day that as a country, we do.

There are multiple outlets working on this story. There are still major revelations - with proof - coming. Sorry, but you’re about to be really sad.

Trump never “went after” Cruz’s wife or daughters. What an outrageous lie. Cruz would not get my vote.

This is some sort of tactic may have a name...

They add a new charge to the existing one...

For the past week, it was Donald went after my wife....not it is my wife and daughters and family....Cruz is trying to expand this to justify his attacks—he really needs Wisconsin.

Cruz signed a contract to use the database and software of the RNC. If he actually meant this the RNC would pull the data access.
