PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- American Airlines flight 736 from Detroit to Philadelphia was cancelled after a pilot was suspected of drinking at the Detroit Metro Airport.
TSA reported to police around 6:40 a.m. Saturday that they thought the co-pilot of an American Airlines flight bound for Philadelphia was acting oddly and may have been drinking.
A field breathalyzer was administered and, officials say, the co-pilot failed the test.

So much for his career. So stupid!
“The flight which was scheduled to take off at 7 a.m. for Philadelphia was canceled.”
Either the co-pilot began drinking at 5:00 a.m. or was on an all night bender.
In even greater and more butt-kissing harmonious news, NO MUSLIMS were deprived of their Obama-given ‘rights’ by being ‘stigmatized’ or thrown off the plane.
Turns out he wasn’t over Macho Grande.
Too much ‘tea’ for the Tillerman.
Turns out that DUI arrests happen all the time in the morning even after the suspect stopped drinking the night before.
It takes a long time for BAC to drop below the legal limit after a night of heavy drinking.
I’d drink if I had to go to Philly, too.
24 hours from bottle to throttle is a good rule.
They didn’t even have this 40 years ago.
That is good rule. The recommendation was 8 hours in the service.
Of course you could always amp back up at the squadron.
Those days are probably gone.
ROFL!
If the co-pilot was over .15...
You still have that drinking problem, I see.
Damn TSA. Buzz kills across the board.
...now we ask you to sit back, relax and enj...
...hell, LET'S MAMBO!
I was on that flight.
Evening South West flight out of San Francisco to San Diego.
Party atmosphere. Pilot thottled up turning onto the runway and when he initiated roll the left wing almost touched the runway.
From there it was cocktails and conversation - the bulkhead seats faced back.
I think the airline/FAA rules are no drinking for 24 hours before a flight.
I remember when I was taking flying lessons, circa 1983...I had been out the night before. My lesson was in the afternoon and we were practicing touch and go’s. I got an instant headache every time we took off. I told my instructor and he asked when the last time was that I had a drink. It was about 14 hours or more earlier but it wasn’t enough.
Had a Squadron XO who would show up early and get into his F4-J and breath O2 for a sober up an hour before the first sortie of the day. A new bottle of O2 was always ready to swap out the bottle he had been breathing from.
