Are North Koreans fighting in Syria? It’s not as far-fetched as it sounds.

This week, representatives of Western-backed Syrian opposition delegation in Geneva told Russian state media that President Bashar al-Assad had a surprising new ally on the Syrian battlefield: militia units from North Korea. "Two North Korean units are there, which are Chalma-1 and Chalma-7," Asaad az-Zoubi, head of the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) to Syrian peace talks in the Swiss city, reportedly told Tass news agency on Tuesday.
In any other context, the presence of soldiers from the internationally isolated and geographically distant country North Korea might seem absurd. However, the civil war in Syria has emerged as a mini-world war over the past five years, with foreign fighters from at least 86 countries believed to be fighting there.

If I were a North Korean, I might consider it an upgrade. They at least have food.
What benefit would there be for Kim Jong-Un, and how would DPRK soldiers communicate in Arabic or Russian?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fat Boy dispatched some advisers, but I’d be highly surprised if they were active fighters.
Money.
They are essentially mercs. They fight, and Kim Jong-un gets the money. The Pyongyang regime is a slave lord. They dispatch workers all around the world. The regime pockets most of the money which is supposed to be paid to the workers, who gets a tiny amount of their official paycheck.
Weather is good there in the fall, as well.

I’m not surprised. But is it Kim Jong-un initiating it or the IRI? The Iranians have hired N. Korean military before for a variety of things, so why not this?
It is also possible that the middlemen who arranged this are Russians. One scenario I entertained last fall was that Russians bring N. Korean soldiers into their country(they share border,) train them, and ship them to Syrian battlefield via land or sea.

They wouldn’t. Regular soldiers just take orders - they only need a commander who can speak another language
Norks have been the go-to force of use in the mid east for the old Sov since the mid ‘60s.
Too many folk put Nork in the PDRC column due to proximity, but in all reality and in every meaningful measure, Nork was a Sov minion from its inception as a separate entity from South Korea.
In the mid ‘60s, the Sov made it policy to aid, supply, train and assist all ‘anti-west’ forces both standard and guerrilla. In the mid east, the Sov made heavy use of Nork units and personnel as trainers, force cadre, etc and so on. There are long established connections between Nork and every degenerate, dysfunctional, scumbag political entity and murderous outfit within the mid east. Every former Sov ally, minion, dupe or tool in that AO is very familiar with the Nork.
Our media has always ignored this connection and pretends to all sorts of confusion and consternation whenever Nork taint shows up in the mid east in a manner that the media can’t get away with pretending didn’t happen.
For it to get all over the web, it first has to be “mentioned in dispatches” of one sort or another.
I wouldn’t be surprise if NK soldiers defect to Assad people they give food regularly LOL!
