Frivolous lawsuit ought to be immediately dismissed and this putz and his lawyer both heavily fined for wasting court’s time.

Gabby Giffords didn’t deserve this.

I hope Loughner gets the Larry Flynt treatment. Forgive me, Lord, but that’s what I think of him & his lawsuit.

I’ve watched some of the conspiracy theories on You Tube.
I’ll watch one video, then the next one I watch will
posit a totally opposite scenario. - IF we believe them
all, our minds will be so clogged up with a mix of lies &
truths until we won’t know which end is up.

Just curious... could a small .22 caliber bullet do what the authorities say happened to her? Or would it cause devastating damage similar to a 9mm at close range?

Well, F=ma. And a= V squared. So the big number for force comes from velocity, which is why the army can use a .22 rifle for combat.

A small .22 pistol won't have the same power as a rifle, of course, and a 9mm bullet will have both greater mass and velocity out of pistols. But still, the power of a .22 pistol, at close range to the head, would be... bad. The shockwave would certainly be lethal, since brain tissue isn't the sturdiest stuff, and it can definitely penetrate the skull.

After all, you don't see Bobby Kennedy walking around.

I’d bet this was filed pro se by Laughner, with no lawyer involved. I’d also bet the complaint was hand written. Prisoners file thousands of these frivolous lawsuits every year.

WOW! At that range, her head should have popped like a melon. I hadn’t heard any of this. Always figured it was a ‘miracle shot’, as the DBM docs described, and left it at that. Any sites or links you have where I can read more about the theories?

Not offhand. You'll have to dig back to incident reports. They didn't even try to make up anything fancy though, IIRC. Just 9mm to head, few feet away. Later when she got out of the hospital, they showed off the "dent" where her "entry" wound "healed." It was all pretty incredible, and done completely straight-faced.

Force = Mass*Acceleration

F = MA

Acceleration is not velocity squared. Acceleration is the first derivative of velocity with respect to time. A = dV/dt.

F = M*(dV/dt)

Less known is the fact that there's a second component to Newtonian force.

F = M*(dV/dt) + V*(dM/dt)

Force = (Mass*Acceleration) + Velocity*(the first derivative of Mass with respect to time).

That means when calculating the rocket-engine force required to achive escape velocity, you must take into consideration the change in mass of the rocket itself as it continuously burns huge amounts of fuel, becoming much lighter in the initial stages of flight.

Straightforward rocket science.

For bullets & other ballistics, the mass of the projectile remains constant, so the second term of the equation is always zero.

Thanks. What I meant was that the speed of the bullet compensates for the light weight of the bullet, if a smaller bullet is shot faster than a larger bullet. And I used acceleration because the bullet is accelerated from rest, though of course after the initial acceleration that’s it.

So...? The original question from Carriage_Hill was what really happened? What do you think was done and by whom to cause the injury Gabby sustained?

Why should I know the answer to that? If the story about her being shot is a demonstrable lie, then how do you know she was injured at all? We know nothing here, the whole thing could be faked. Or she was injured some other way, and the fake shooting story covers that up.

A .22LR at close range scrambled James Brady's brain, and very nearly killed Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan went on to be the only good President I ever expect to see; James Brady became a victim of the abusive bitch Sarah Brady.

The lawsuit is a hoax. That’s why CBS pulled the piece.
