Governor Otter of Idaho with Justice Scalia

With the Idaho legislature’s permitless or “Constitutional” carry bill on Governor Butch Otter’s desk, I read a comment on the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance facebook page that seemed unlikely. It claimed that numerous disarmists were calling the Governor’s office to urge a veto.  From the ISAA facebook page:

SB 1389, Constitutional Carry, was delivered to the Governor’s office yesterday (March 21st) at 2:40 p.m.

I called Governor Otter’s office to see what was happening with the bill, and what sort of opposition it was getting.   I was refereed to the Press office.  As expected, they are very busy because this is the end of the legislative session.  They are handling large numbers of calls on numerous issues.

Most of the callers are from out of state.  I was told that this was common on issues involving abortions, wolves, and guns.

On the particular issue of permitless or “Constitutional” carry, the phone calls are running 50/50 for and against.

The Governor’s office confirmed that they have until 2:40 p.m. on Saturday to veto or sign the bill.

If the veto occurs after the end of the legislative session, there will not be any reasonable chance to override the Governor’s veto, because the Governor would have to call the legislature back into

I do not think Governor Otter will veto Constitutional carry. But it sounds as if Bloomberg is mounting a national campaign to pressure him.

I wonder how many of the calls, against Constitutional carry to be exact, are from out of state agitators?

Bloomberg is running a lying radio campaign claiming SB1389 would dismantle the concealed weapons permit process in Idaho. That is a damn lie. The CWP process remains and provides a means of getting a permit that has reciprocity in other states. SB1389 only applies to Idaho residents age 18 or older. They acquire the same right to carry that basic permit holders have, but without need to apply for the permit. If they want the reciprocity and the ability to use the permit when making a purchase with a 4473 without another NICS check, they have to get the real permit.

Even though I have the basic CWP and only lack submission of my paperwork for the Enhanced CWP, I'm still in favor of SB1389. It means I don't have to have my permit in my pocket to have a concealed weapon. The current law makes you a felon if you have your weapon concealed and don't have the permit on your person. SB1389 removes that hazard from everyone.

Any thoughts on how I could get a transcript of one of those ads?

I do not think Governor Otter will veto Constitutional carry.

Butch will do whatever his handlers tell him to do. He has no will of his own. "They" seriously must have something on him. If you look up "Establishment Rino", you'll see Butch and Bush. heheh

He signed Campus Carry last year. The university lobby hated it.
