Create lesson plans, implement those plans and then assign appropriate tests and progress (AKA: GRADES) to those students who (a) pay attention and (b) complete their assignments. That is your call and task.

I am sitting in an alternative high school at this very moment, where the students have failed in conventional schools multiple times. They arrive whenever they feel like showing up (if indeed they do at all-—61% school attendance here), their faces are glued to their phones and iPods, they do not turn in work, they use incredibly filthy language, much of which is directed toward their teachers. One student brought her toddler to class, which caused complete disruption. The students are feted with hot breakfasts brought to their classroom. I see lots of empty pizza boxes during the week. There don’t seem to be much in the way of consequences for wrongdoing. I can completely understand this teacher’s point of view. It is one born of long frustration at situations such as I describe.
Sadly it is pretty difficult these days. Talk to some teachers, actual in-the-cllassroom teachers, and you will find out just how bad it is. They don’t have much leeway in what they teach or how they teach it. If you have a younger child, grandchild, niece, nephew, in school you should be allowed to visit and observe once in a while. If you have been out of school for a while you are in for a shock.

The teach is clearly identified in the story as Theo.
“Unknown” is who wrote the story for Fox.
Yokel seems to believe the teacher (Theo) has no legitimate complaint regarding his lack of authority to impose any discipline in the classroom, and that no amount of distraction or disruption should impede Theo’s effectiveness.
Clearly, YOU are unAmerican.
