A hospital doctor who gave a man a vasectomy by mistake after he complaint about waiting for another procedure has admitted misconduct charges. Associate specialist in urology Dr Nanikram Vaswani was meant to be removing scar tissue from the patient, but a string of failings meant he performed a vasectomy instead. A medical tribunal heard the patient had arrived at 7.30am for his surgery and was waiting with other men due to have vasectomies. There was "some disquiet" when patients who arrived at 11am were seen before those who arrived earlier leading to confusion over which procedure the man should undergo. "On completion [of the vasectomy], he then looked for the first time at Patient A's notes and learnt of his mistake." There was poor listing on the day as patients who were due to be seen at 7.30am were being seen after those who arrived at 11am. A certain amount of anger was displayed by patients on that day because of these delays, the tribunal hears. So a decision was made to change the order of the list in light of these complaints from patients - this was not communicated to the operating team. Its my understanding Patient A was brought into theatre outside of sequence for these reasons, Christopher Dawson, a consultant urological surgeon says. The mistake at Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool, in February 2014 left the patient "physically and emotionally traumatised". Dr Vaswani admitted failing to confirm the patient's identity, not reviewing the patient's medical notes and not following surgical checklists. He also admitted failing to inform a consultant or the hospital trust after realising his mistake and not keeping a record of his discussions with the patient in the aftermath.

PS-the term ‘sister’ refers to a nurse, not necessarily a nun.
The wonderful world of UK health.
Dont patients for safety write No on all the places they are not supposed to operate on?
It could have been worse. I wonder if the waiting room contained any patients awaiting transgender surgery.
That’s harsh, man.
Whoa....
I’m squirming in my chair right now as I read this...
Oops ping.
A typical day at St. God’s hospital.
Married with Children
“A Little Off the Top” is the 12th episode of season 8 and number 169 overall in the series.
In this episode Al suffers from a bad back and is taken to the hospital, where instead of a circular incision, he gets a circumcision.
Well, the doctor was a Urologist and the man had been admitted to remove ‘scar tissue’. I don’t know exactly from where. He complained about his wait as others who had arrived after him were being taken into surgery, so he was inserted into the schedule with the vasectomy patients. I suspect he was under anesthesia.
Unless he’s a Muslim, it will probably save him from some SERIOUS CHILD SUPPORT in the future.
Isn’t socialized crap medicine wonderful??? Well, it could have been worse...he could have died in a waiting ambulance outside the hospital before ever seeing a doctor for some grave illness....as the record shows happens often in the UK.
Or by being ‘slow-walked’ (after determining your age and the severity of the emergency) by the 111 (911 over there) operators. I posted that article recently. At least the head of the emergency services in that area did resign.
Remember the WWII-era army joke:
After induction, they issued me a comb. Then they cut off all my hair.
Next, they issued me a toothbrush. Then they pulled all my teeth.
When they issued me a jock strap, I deserted.

The Doctor puts an X on the part to have worked on.
Dr Nanikram Vaswani
The name says it all. I thought it might be a VA Hospital.
Agree. Foreign Medical Doctors who come to the USA I think have to do 4 years of medical school here. Not so much in the UK.
