I not sure just how it would work legally but the engineers could be jailed for contempt??
“I not sure just how it would work legally but the engineers could be jailed for contempt??”
Not likely. AAPL will just pay through the nose and perhaps get slammed with a class action suit by their customers. If they declined the chance to comply, AAPL was the respondent, not the engineers. This is just moree PR bull shite, classic lefty pattern of demonizing the “law and order” party.
Not unless they individually were ordered by the court to write the code.
No...a judge would be laughing at any federal prosecutor who tried to push a computer engineer into doing something that he felt was marginal work or work-without-value. If the guy designs a backdoor....who is to say that ten-thousand hackers don’t discover the backdoor after it’s marketed. If you ask me....this is a ‘dead-horse’ scenario now. You can only push this as far as the dead-horse can ride.
And if the gov’t does get into the middle and designs this for Apple? Once it fails....just how fast do you think that Apple will drag them into court and sue? For billions? I think the FBI is setting this all up for failure....one way or another.
