Carr: It's Time for GOP to Pick its Poison
Boston Herald ^ | 3/16/16 | Howie Carr

Posted on 03/16/2016 8:32:46 AM PDT by raccoonradio

There are only two factions left now in the Republican party.

Trump and anti-Trump.

Gov. John Kasich is still breathing, but let’s face it, his only role is to keep Trump from getting to the magic 1,237 number of delegates on the first ballot in Cleveland in July.

The GOP establishment — the GOPe — officially went out of business last night. Beware the Ides of March indeed. In Miami, yesterday was Goodbye Rubio Tuesday.

Little Marco blamed most of the chaos in the Republican party on “the political establishment” — you know, the same fat cats who gave his super PAC $40 million after they gave Jeb Bush’s $100 million, much of which he used to destroy Little Marco.

It’s now going to be up to either Trump or anti-Trump (that would be Ted Cruz) to prevent the ever-scarier prospect of Hillary Clinton, with her mysterious cough, her unspeakable husband and her astonishing corruption, ascending to the presidency.

Hillary Clinton’s America — Victims “R” Us. And oh by the way, no American lives were lost in Libya.

The stakes are high, but now the beaten Republican donor class, the Washington cartel, has to finally pick its poison. Does it want to go with Trump, for whom everything is negotiable, or Ted Cruz, for whom it isn’t?

The GOPe has to be thinking to themselves, “If The Donald could give money to Hillary, surely we can do business with him.” On the other hand, Cruz used to be a George W. Bush coat-holder; he even wrote an op-ed piece on the greatness of John Roberts, who saved Obamacare not once, but twice.

Neither Trump nor Cruz is Jeb Bush, obviously, or Little Marco, or even Chris Christie. When Karl Rove said jump to those RINOs, they yelped “How high?” But now it’s any port in a storm.

Is there any way they could fall in behind … Kasich? A guy whose super PAC just took $200,000 from George Soros. A hack who voted for NAFTA, and chuckles nervously about it when called out on Fox. John Kasich, a guy who promises an EBT card to every Third World criminal who can make it across the Rio Grande.

If you’re Charlie Baker or Kelly Ayotte, it’s not exactly a field of dreams. Nightmares is more like it.

Last night, Massachusetts national committeeman Ron Kaufman opened his house to all the members of the GOP state committee, Republicans and tax-fattened Baker hacks alike. Kaufman, another Bush hand, wants a smooth operation to make sure that the right people — Baker’s payroll patriots — end up as delegates to Cleveland … just in case there’s a second ballot.

There hasn’t been a “brokered” Republican convention in 68 years. But dreams die hard. It’s not going to work, but as long as the stupid fat cats are willing to give the “consultants” more millions, they’re willing to squander it, after taking their 15 percent off the top of course.

But the reality is, it’s Trump or anti-Trump, and don’t bet against Trump.

Wow!

Must be something with Boston radio hosts. Dan Rea of WBZ also lost a lot of weight, but I’m sure it wasn’t that much.

There is a way for Cruz to get the one-on-one he wants, and to solidify his standing among all voters, and to put to rest this political suicide the GOPe is hell-bent on pursuing.

All he's got to do is say, "This is a two-man race. A brokered convention will destroy the party. If neither party has the majority of delegates, I will instruct my delegates to support Trump."

That leaves absolutely NO room for Kasich, there is no justification for his candidacy at all. Now, Cruz gets it down to two, distances himself from the establishment he's gotten too cozy with lately, and would probably gain a great deal of support.

He could take his pick of positions in the Trump administration or on the Court.

NEWT: I really appreciated him for what he did with the ‘contract with America’ back in the day. Then it seemed he got kinda a big head ... I can’t remember specifics now but I lost some respect for him ... and wasn’t there something unpleasant about his first wife ... and then Calista ... Newt might have some baggage (I guess who doesn’t when you reach a certain age!). But, all in all a smart man who is very capable.

>>Otherwise, the GOP will cause Clinton to be elected.<<

Oh, they will work long and hard to make sure she gets selected. They will even vote for her. The establishment’s agenda is now:
1. Plan for a brokered convention. Change the rules and/or disregard them.
2. Pick another absolute zero for a candidate. Trump goes third party, providing an excuse for losing.
3. If Trump is elected, have articles of impeachment ready on Day One.
4. Block any and all nominees.
5. Become Democrats, swinging the House and Senate.

After we ,as a decadent people, we averted our gaze from filthy oral sex from a young intern in the oval office, I’m not to concerned about Newt’s marriages. I want someone in there with a brain who has balls.

True but no liberal either or he’d be hawking Bernie or Hillary. Add Gov Charlie Baker, who promises not to support Trump in any way, as another “Howie supported but he let us
down”. Still more conservative than some and very entertaining. He gets it on things like illegal immigration,
hackerama etc. And yes those he supports come back to bite us (Brown, too)...but at least we don’t have Gov. (or Sen.)
Martha Coakley...

not that MA, etc is in prime condition with what we DO have
of course.

I’ve watched him on the Howie cam recently and he looks pretty good. That is one unflattering photo of him. Looks like somebody gave him a poke in the eye.

(Sorry Howie, if you’re lurking!)

This getting old crap isn’t for pansies :)

He’s probably really healthy from losing the weight but the older you get you really do need a slight layer of fat to fill out your skin. Can’t win! But we all know: It isn’t how you feel, it’s how you look!
