Democrats to link court vacancy to late-term abortion bill

Senate Democrats are trying to turn the GOP’s refusal to move on the Supreme Court vacancy into the latest episode of the “war on women.”

Led by some of their most senior female members, Senate Democrats will take to the floor Tuesday to launch a new messaging offensive that ties the battle over replacing Justice Antonin Scalia to a GOP-led hearing on late-term abortions scheduled to occur later Tuesday.

The new tactic, led by Washington Sen. Patty Murray, the sole woman in Democratic leadership, is an attempt to galvanize women in the Supreme Court vacancy fight, particularly as the high court takes up critical abortion cases.

The thrust of the message from Murray, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), and other Democratic senators will be this: Senate Republicans won’t take time to fulfill their advise-and-consent duties but will take time to do what Murray calls “everything they can to turn back the clock on women’s health care.”

I wish Obama would nominate Anthony Weiner to the Supreme Court.

Here we go! Now watch how the dems play hard ball. break rules, make up rules, play dirty, bring out the big artillery...and get their way.

Pubbies will be rocked back on their heels, quietly muttering and fretting about how “no we don't hate women, honestly we don't. Please like us, Please. Here take your supreme court appointment, just please don't call me racist, homophoobe or a woman hater.”

It wasn’t that long ago that ‘rats swore up and down that they, too, were opposed to late-term abortions. Stop trying to smear us with that false charge, they’d say. That’s not what we’re trying to do.

Now you’re waging war on women if you’re opposed to late-term abortions. Lying scum.

Take the bait. Tell Jugears we’d be delighted to advise and perhaps consent on your nominee. Start the process of hearings. Make the process an endless referendum on every conceivable topic imaginable that would bear on the campaign. Daily headlines and discussions...quotes about the importance of the constitution, reminders of the treatment of Bork and Thomas.... A show trial that would make the old Russians blush. Make it last from now until past November. If there is any merit whatsoever to the man and (god forbid) a leftist gets elected...put him through! If he is the center right possibility I have heard he might be. We have, after all, had some disasters with so-called “iron clad conservative” appointments and even a center right or moderate would beat whoever the left jams in there, should we lose the WH and/or enough of the down ticket house or senate seats to be weakened. We get a much older than usual nominee, and the possibility that he comes down at least center.

I say do it.

“Why Mr. Obama, we think it was uncommonly even handed, given your history of leftist trickery, to make this nomination!” OK, we don’t come right out and say it in so many words, but we do say it in deed.

If we win the election and maintain control ... hey! Thanks for your time and trouble, but we’ll have to consider this until February. Then we can take the measure of the new President’s alternate proposal, in the event it is a lefty and we all KNOW what that will look like.

We win in either event or at worse, come out better than we might if we roll the dice. Why not advise and consent on our own terms? Then the lib press can STFU about how unfair we are. Well, we know they will find fault about “dragging it out, but they gotta earn their payoffs somehow.
