Voters for years have occasionally opted to take part in the more interesting primary contest. In some cases, their votes have been spoilers meant to give their partys candidate a weaker opponent in the general election. That was the case in 2008, when conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh urged Republicans to vote in the Democratic primary to extend that bruising campaign & attempt to deny Obama the nomination.
In Ohio, Republican Chairman Matt Borges said that some of this years crossover voting will be caused by affection for Kasich, a two-term governor. In Kasich's 2014 gubernatorial re-election, he won in Lucas, Cuyahoga and Mahoning counties, which are Democratic strongholds, Borges noted.
You dont do that unless you have some crossover appeal, he said.
Thats not to say Trump isnt also spurring some Democrats to vote Republican this year because they are drawn to his candidacy.
Mahoning County Republican Party Chairman Mark Munroe, a self-described die-hard Kasich supporter who campaigned for him in New Hampshire, is taking calls nearly every day from Democrats wanting to vote in the Republican primary.
And nine times out of 10, or 19 out of 20, you get the sense they are doing so because they want to vote for Trump, he said. Its been fascinating to watch. Hes getting Democrats to cross over, Munroe said of Trump, but hes also getting a large number of unaffiliated voters people who dont participate in primaries.
In Mahoning County, a northeastern Ohio county that includes Youngstown, 8,639 people have asked for absentee ballots. Of those, 759 were Democrats asking for the Republican ballot, and 1,053 were unaffiliated voters asking for the GOP ballot.
We could have 4- or 5- or 6,000 new Republicans in Mahoning County, Munroe said. Which would be a very significant number.

If a blue dog democrat saw the choices were Sanders and Clinton, the republican ballot might be appealing, and might also decide the democrats have gone too far left and remain as republican voters.
Thanks, that’s comforting. Prayers up for Todd Palin and victory for Trump tomorrow.
Maybe Democrats can see that Trump is a liberal.
But he isn’t a liberal 1638G...only an idiot would think that. Trumps policies are the most free market and realistic of all the candidates. But, you were probably just kidding around.
They are feeling the Bern, not the ‘sich.
Gay marriage and Bruce Jenner.
We are conservative here, and people won’t say it, but both really freaked them out.
It also could be those 17 year olds who are allowed to vote tomorrow - they probably are going to vote for Bernie. They aren’t old enough to make these decisions - come to think of it - many adults aren’t either.
And that lying snivelling little slimeball Levin ...
It is common knowledge in the democrat community that the DNC wants to run against donnie, hence in the open primary states he gets a lot of “crossovers”.
Donald J. Trump Jr. is cut from the same cloth as his father. He has nailed it. His father must be proud of him.
Indeed, he is proud of Donald Jr and proud of all his children, with good reason!
Maybe the voters can see that Cruz is a lunatic fringe religious nut, that hangs around other crazies that believe Gays should be Murdered.
Kasuck’s admission came too late to have a significant impact.
Lol.. Called it weeks ago! The only Trump voters I know are libs and David Duke fans.. The usual democrat crowd. It explains the violence and lack of character and restraint. The libs have been dying to go back to Woodstock and the sixties... We are well on the way. They didn’t have kids of their own, so they took ours in schools and colleges.
Didn’t see these things at a TEA party rally.
Harry Truman was asked what he thought about lowering the voting age to 18. He replied, it would make more sense to raise it to 25.
What if Trump names his son, Jr as VP?
The way I figure, it 16 yrs of Trumps would just about counter the 16 FDR did to malign the US.
